Fuel pump relocation! scary but effective.
 

I just mounted the fuel pump and pressure regulator behind the driver's seat. The steel braided lines came up through the hole the factory wiring went through... I like the setup cause i can change fuel pressure in a flash and the pump is easily accesible. I also mounted a fuel cutoff in the dash. I don't think i'll have probs with fire cause of the braided lines.... Hope not anyways. Give me your input on this mod....

theres a puerto rican guy here with a 12a peripheral port (sp?) that has it setup exactly the same way. been like that for a year he says. your fine! :D

In road racing if the fuel line comes into the car it must be braided line. More durable.

With that said a friend did this in his Rx-2 and the braided fuel line was rubbing on the + terminal of the battery, which was mounted behind passenger seat area. Wore thru the braid material, wore thru the thin rubber hose that's under the braid. Leaked fuel into car. Metal braid touched + battery terminal and voila!

She burned to the ground. 2.5lb extinguisher and 10lb fire system didn't put it out. Too much fuel in there. Drivers right arm had 2nd degree burns, burend thru 2 layers of nomex. Plus he got a fire blister by his eye. Really, truly sad.

I talked to the saftey crew after reviewing the smoking remains and asked what could have prevented this. They said running the braided line thru a metal pipe that went from front firewall to rear firewall would have kept the fuel out of the interior.

Something to think about.

fuel inside the car is a bad idea. its also agenst the law in most places/ agenst the rules also in most places for the afore mentioned reasons( unsafe )

Heed this advice! Also, although convenient, that a bad place for the reg. It should be as close to the engine as possible to keep the pressure the carb sees as constant as possible. Putting it there will cause pressure fluctuations.

i wouldnt be doing that anytime soon, i rather create a remote switch for it outside the car

Damn, that shit is scary...reminds me of the old mustang horror stories...like when the '66 would get rearended fuel would fly into the cab. Really truly scary.

Yep. AD's white Rx-2. Everything inbetween windshield and rear window was toast. Literally!

Everything in front windshield and behind rear window was salvageable.

Driver pulled over and got out.
