fuel leak over exhaust
 

i was out decarbonizing my car today and as i got home and popped the hood to let it cool off and as i was poking around, and found some fuel just sitting there under the intake manifold from the front injector i assume. i know the FCs have PD issues but do the six port 13Bs have them also? i thought no but if anyone knows please feel free to educate me upside my head.

also learned 95 is the self limiting speed in my car as the rear view mirror shakes too much to see out of and the steering wheel starts to go nuts. but that will be fixed in time.

I found a leak of gas on my REPU when I was buying it that leaked right onto the exhaust. I went and got new fuelline and FI clamps to fix it immediately before running it again.

I'm pretty sure any 13B with a PD has issues, not so much S5 and after (IIRC). All n/a 13B motors from 1984-1991 had 6 ports BTW. I read about installing a banjo bolt in place of the PD a few years ago in the 2nd gen section. May wanna search for it there.

I have an 85 SE and the same thing happened to me. It was the pulsation damper. Check it out right away.

my 84 se did it too. ITs either the pulsation damper leaking or the hi pressure fuel hose leading to the fuel rail. There are fuel hoses running under the intake plenum(dynamic chamber). Mine was leaking so i put on new clamp and it hasnt leaked in a year. Make sure u unplug all vacuum hoses and all sensor connectors before you take of the dynamic chamber. I ripped the wires out of the intake air temp sensor and it didnt run well in the cold (wonder why?:rolleyes: ) after that.

anyway very dangerous, espessially if its sitting on top of the engine steaming or getting on the exhaust

if it is the PD there is a screw that holds it together it comes loose over time and starts to leak fuel and causes FIRES so you either wanna replace it or eliminate it all together. you can also tighten the screw under the plastic cap but i dont know how well that will work.

3rd and final 7, psssh what's the worst that could happen in an engine fire where the fuel supply is only being supplied via a pressurized line and there's only what no more than 16 potential gallons plus the engine oil and other various tidbits underhood.

yeah i'm checking it out tomorrow after work. and keeping a fire extinguisher in the car but that doesn't make me feel safe at all. i wonder if the apt. complex has a rule against night fabricating a fire suppression system??

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the past but i also have the same fuel leak...i pulled the whole UIM off and then pull the rail off with the injectors...checked the o-rings on the injectors they seem fine. THEN i pull the plastic cap off PD and the little screw in there just fell right out...it wasnt screwed in....could that have been my fuel leak?

Eeyup. That screw is there for a reason.

yeah i looked at some threads in both the 1st gen and 2nd gen section about the PD....i put the screw back in and tomorrow im going to find out if that actually fixed the problem...im also going to replace the fuel lines and clamps while im there.

Thankfully, my SE hasn't had any problems, yet, knock on wood. When I got my 7, my rotary tech warned me about the PD, as well.

Also, believe it or not, but there's another PD located at the end of the fuel pump assembly on the -SEs. I noticed that when I was replacing my fuel pump.

yeah i actually knew about the one near the fuel pump but have no clue about the one on the rail until about a week ago.

I have a good friend that is very into rotarys so i learn mostly from him and my own research on the forum....its much more complicated than my last car (ford zx2)

Make sure you energize the fuel system before you put everything back together. That way you can see if you have a cracked injector housing or maybe the copper sealing washers on the fuel rail are leaking.

how would i energize the system?

Green connector at the passenger side wiring harness near the AFM. You jumper it. Download a copy of the FSM for the procedure.

I'm an FC owner and I just happend to see this thread, and I just did this exact same thing. I replaced the PD with a banjo bolt about 4 months ago, and apparently I moved the fuel line going to the lower fuel rail too much, becuause it started leaking very bad the other day. I took the whole dynamic chamber off and replaced a small 4 inch hp fuel line, and everythings fixed. And the line was only like 3 bucks at autozone, so it's much safer than trying to drive the car while it's leaking fuel all over the hot manifold and heat-shields. To cut the bull, if you VALUE your car, replace either the PD w/ a banjo bolt, that fuel line I mentioned, or better, both. :)

If you want to replace the PD with a banjo bolt, the part is: Earls #997591, banjo bolt, 12X1.25.

Yeah i value my car a lot...once it started leaking i stopped driving it...only time i drove it since it started leaking was to bring it to my parents house so i could work on it in a shop instead of in the cold outside.

Yeah but thats not the end of my problems...got an exhaust leak right at the header and i dont have the time or tools to get it fixed....also got an oil leak from the upper line on the oil cooler. Hopefully in the next month everything will be fixed though.

you can get a new PD from mazdatrix.com if you want. a banjo bolt lets fuel flow through it.
