Have you posted a WTB thread? I don't recall what year Mazda changed to the space saver spare tire, 81 or 82, but any tank after 81 will fit. I may have a spare tank but it will most likely need refurbishing which I've done myself on several tanks.
If you want to go with a fuel cell, remove the spare tire well by drilling out the spot welds. Check with your local automotive paint supplier for the special bit to drill out spot welds. Install a flat sheet of sheet metal, 18 gauge or heavier, in it's place by either tack welding or bolting. Then seal the seams, above and below with a good automotive caulk.
