fuel???

ok, under any good amount of acceleration over 2nd gear the car tends to sputter and cut out. i drive an 83 with a hollow pre cat. my buddy who stomped my ass in a crx bec of the sputtering, said that each time it pops through the exh it tends to puff smoke. my car does this alot esp. since i hollowed the pre cat. if i am running about 90-95 and make a lane change to the left my car will begin to sputter and cut out. it is annoying as crap. i know my car is better than a honda i think ive got the 20 yr old shits, ya know right a 20 yrs EVERYTHING goes to SHIT!

pls help with any ideas.

also, on the average, how many turns out does the mix screw sit on most stock 12a's?

also how far is the acc. pump unscrewed?

C/S why doesnt anyone run carter or edelbrock carbs everyone likes holley why?

The carb is running out of fuel. I'd say you either have a clogged fuel filter or a failing fuel pump.

A lot of people overlook their fuel filters. Both my 85-SE with 140k miles, and my 85 base model (100k) still had their original fuel filters. The Base had been sitting for 3 years, and the filter was so bad, she was almost undriveable until I replaced it.
At one point I had to pull over, and hit the filter with a hammer to knock enough crud loose to make it home.

yay for the fuel filter!

my problems fixed!

but, does anyone have a rough estimate on the carb settings?

When I put on this carb I have now, '84 Nikki on an '82 12a, I turned the mixture screw all the way in (clockwise) and then backed it off 3 full turns and adjusted the idle screw to correct the warm idle. I saw this in a couple of different posts, so a search should turn something up.
