front camber problems
 

i took my se in to get an aliment and the right side is out 2 degrees and can't figure out why. all new bushings and nothing is bent, but anyways. not looking to spend alot to correct this problem. there are no bolts to replace for camber kit bolts, so some one told me to use a wedge kit....

so my question is what wedge kit to use...can't find anything on this in the form.

well i just finaly found somthing..........soming about twisting the shock around to bring it back in.........what do i have to do to try this?

did you recently do struts/shocks or spings??? the strut mount has four way to be bolted in depending on on the position can effect caster or camber or both

can start by turning it 180 degree;s then look for another alignment shop because frankly a good one should either know this or be willing to look into it before returning vehicle


the potential problem is if you adjust all the caster out the car will be a freakin handful trying to keep it going straight

The top shock mount can be turned. This is the black part on top with the 4 bolts to go on the tower. There is a small arrow on them. If the arrow points inwards, you can get a little more negative camber out of it.

yup you'll need to unbolt the sway bar stabilizer links and remove the 4 nuts on the strut mount at that point you should be able be able to flex suspesion down and turn the strut mount.

Keep in mind the tire may spin as you press down and if that were to happen the mount may come back up rather rapidly catching finders and/or hand .... after saying all that perhaps bring back to alignment shop and tell them to do it :)

use a crow bar... i normally wedge it on the swaybar and the body to push the suspension down. that will help you get enough room to rotate the shock mount to whatever orientation you need. just make sure that it matches the other side. there is an arrow (stated above) that can help with this... good luck.

thanks guys. i'll look it to this asap and let you know what happens...and yes all the local shops around here know nothing of 1st gen rx7's

one more thing...i looked on top on the rubber and notice what could be arrows in the rubber... are those it? cause they are pointing the same way on both sides [inward toward the windsheild]

The FSM shows the normal clocking position for the arrows in the suspension section. However the amount of change is minimal at best. You won't gain 2 degrees. Time to start looking for bent parts.

If I may suggest at minimun do all the bushing, replacing badly worn bushing can make a noticeable differance

Something IS bent, just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not bent. Rotating the upper strut plate will give you 1/4-1/2deg, not nearly enough to fix your problem. Camber plates or adjustable lower control arms will give you plenty of adjustment.

The racing beat control arms can be easily made if you have access to a mill and welder. So could the camber plates...but if you had access to these tools I doubt you'd be asking this question :)

If you want to go REAL cheap(but more work)then the strut tube can be bent in a press, most likely this is the part that is bent anyway. I fixed mine this way, took it from +3deg to -1deg, I DO NOT recommend this but it can be done if you are very careful not to bend it too far or crush the tube.

I found this cam bolt kit on Rock auto that's suppose to give you + or - 1.25 degrees. It's a Moog part.

I had the same thing happen. The strut casing was actually bent at the hub. Looking at it off the car you wouldn't really notice it, but on the car the wheel had positive camber. It was annoying, had to replace the casing as the hub is built in. The joint between the hub and casing is very weak and can bend with small amounts of force. I had two bend, one was from a wall hit at the track, and the other someone bumped my wheel in a parking lot.

mines -2 degrees front right....and i don't think i can use the bolt with the lobe....mines a gsl-se
