Ferarri replica out of 1st gen?

This has got to be a 1st gen. What do you guys think? If so...I bet it is a pretty sweet rid...

Too bad no rotor, though.

and another?

Cteam4life 08-08-02 01:10 PM

Everything up until the b pillar makes it look like a first gen...Haha fake ferarri's, what can I say? If you can't own one...why not pretend.

Wattz 08-08-02 01:15 PM

I really like the look of the 250.

The other one has cool lights, but it's kinda wierd.

Zulu 08-08-02 01:18 PM

it'd be easier to make an early porsche replica IMHO

zyounker 08-08-02 01:20 PM

That is a 300zx not a RX-7..

Sorry :)

brycegp 08-08-02 01:45 PM

the yellow one is an rx-7...

just look at the shape of the window...unmistakeable...

Sorry, to you...;)

zyounker 08-08-02 01:52 PM

Then why is the dash from a 300zx or maybe a 280zx????

Why is this here? It's not 1stgen tech by a long shot....

damon 08-08-02 01:54 PM

I would have to agree with zyounker on this one

zyounker 08-08-02 01:54 PM

They are both 280Z's. It's very obvious. There is a Kit car company that makes the fiberglass kit to make the 280Z a ferrari wannabe as well.

Zulu 08-08-02 02:08 PM

everybody knows that the datsuns and nissans are turned into ferraris, and that's an unmistakeable dash, but, seriously, show me some 1st gen porsche kits :)

brycegp 08-08-02 02:16 PM

cant argue on the dash...

moremazda 08-08-02 02:17 PM

I don't suppose anyone noticed the word NISSAN cast into the valve cover, did they?

MIKE-P-28 08-08-02 04:31 PM

I seen a Porsche once modeled from a 1st gen 7. It was pretty sweet someone spent a SHITLOAD OF TIME doing in. It was like a 930 steel nose or soemthing? sound right?

Defprun 08-08-02 04:51 PM

I wouldnt mind seeing the posche kits either!

Manntis 08-08-02 05:06 PM

That's definately a 280ZX (1979-1984) I used to own one with the same interior.

Japanese cars of the period borrowed heavily from European marques. The 70's Z cars, then the early 80's 280ZX (of which this is one) have the long bonnet and sugar scoop headlamps inspired by the haguar E type, which was one of the most significant production sports cars in history, and the early Ferraris.

The Z cars are small and somewhat powerful given the emissions systems choking everything made at the time, but got heavier and heavier as time went on until they came back as the 1991 300ZX, which remains my favorite Nissan until the 350Z proves itself.

The RX-7 was modeled after the flyweight English marques such as Lotus and MG, selecting a tiny package with moderate horsepower for maneuverability over brute horsepower in a larger body A la Camero and Corvette. Again, after the 1st generation they got heavier, loaded down with sound insulation and metal to eliminate squeaks and rattles until Japan lightened up and came out with the 3rd gen. The 3rd gen still has gobs of sound insulation but they made efforts to save weight everywhere.

Anywho, that fake ferrari is definately a bloated 280ZX with a sweet inline 6 engine.

1st link = Nissan/Datsun 280zx

2nd link = Datsun 240z, 260z or 280z, they all had that same stye dash and are very similar.

Manntis 08-08-02 09:53 PM

um - the dash in a 240, 260, or 280Z and the dash in a 280ZX were quite a bit different. The 280 ZX had a single instrument binnicle like the RX7, whereas the older Z's had a dual pod binnacle. All of them have the cool triple gauges along the top of the dash though one of 'em is just a clock.

coldy13 08-08-02 11:25 PM

I know they did, but there are 2 links in the first post, this is a pic of the dash of the car in the 2nd link, it is not a 280zx, it is a 240z, 260z, or 280z. http://images.traderonline.com/img/1...29479426_6.jpg

Again, it's a Kit.

280 Z Cars Kits - Velo Rossa

Some are downright gorgeous. Some... Not so much.

coldy13 08-09-02 12:02 AM

Yeah, some of the kit's are VERY nice. For a while I was looking into Z cars a lot. My dad used to have a 260z that we were planning on restoring, but it had WAY too many problems than we wanted to deal with, so he sold it a couple months ago after I bought myself my FB. I know someplace sells a convertable kit keeping the normal lines on the rest of the car, it looks very good if its done well :)

Manntis 08-09-02 12:38 AM

see, now that Vela Rossa is quite tasteful. Far better than the Daytona kits or FieroLambos.

:wtf: Why is this still f%$@ing here?? Especially since it's been dtermined that the crap kit is actually a 280Z?? Damn waste of server space...

Felix Wankel 08-09-02 12:27 PM

It'd just get moved to another section. So the waste of server space argument is moot.
