Fender flares
 

Hello all I was recently thinking about puting some fender flares on my car. There is this old old old early 1980's celica GTS, and the fender flares are just falling off. I was wondering if any one has put the Celica GTS fenderflares on an Rx-7, and if they will fit?

So did the fact that they are falling off make you want to buy them? ;)
I would go and take some measurements to see if they'd line up. If they are slightly off you can always correct with a little fiberglass and body filler.

The fact that I can get them for free makes me want them lol. I am just wondering how the first gen would look with them. I will probably rip them off that Celica in a week or so, and do a mock fit up to see how it will look.

Take a tape measure and measure the wheel opening on the RX7 and the Celica (front to back).

Somebody on here a while ago asked about some Datsun flares, which I noticed were identical to the flares a tenant of mine had. The curve for the body and everything matched, but it looked janky as hell because the Datsun has a good 4-6" longer opening.

The frotns on teh celica look a little stretched, so I am not sure if they will fit. Either way I can just cut and splice them to make them shorter.

You dont want them that bad,if you did, you would walk 10 miles,bare footed in the blizzard snow for them.

lol... Well they are about a 20 minute drive at good speed, so maybe they are 30 miles away. I also have nothing to worry about, because none is going to take them. I am also a bit worried that my car will just look plain gay at a stock ride hight, with fender flares, lol.

I'm going to get a set of fender flares, love the old school look, room for wider 0 offset rims, and room to work the suspension up as I want to.

lol... well if I the celica flares work out well i am sure a bunch of people will have them lol.

Stock ride height might not be a problem with how it looks. The stock wheels, on the other hand, would be an eyesore if the flares stick out and the wheels don't. The nice tthing about flares is you can radius the wheel wells, which makes fitting larger tires and wheels much easier when lowered.

The biggest reason i installed my widebody was to be able to run the Epsilons with the car lowered. If I had found a decent set of flares that had allowed me to do that, I might not have done the widebody conversion. No regrets though, with the feedback I have recieved, the effort was well worth it.

Your car looks beautiful BTW. Are the flares on both the front and rears.

If you mean the rivet-on type flares then I'm all for that as well. There's only so much that rolling the fender lips can do. (You will see what I mean if you ever get your parts in :) ) I haven't even got to the part where the front track gets widened an inch or two, yet!

Plus, if the metal around the lip is rusted and needs replaced anyway, what have you got to lose? That's where I am at right now.

The Golf/Rabbit flares are welded to the original front fenders. It will need a little fitment-agressions :D
The rear plastic flares is, as i have been told, a protective overvfender for the Rabbit.
They are just mounted over the original slightly modified fender.

235´s in front and 265´s in rear

You got my plans exactly PeeJay, by the way my springs and radius rods arrived..

Now I will not be widening the track at all, so I am whiry on how it is going to look.

With stock rims it will look bad, the flares will hang way out past the rims which are small in diameter and width, if you're keeping the stock rims, dont do the fender flares. IMHO.

I'm going to try and pick up some Corrado G60 flares.

I really want to do this mod.

1)What years cars can i get this from?

2)Is the rear fromt he Volks,go to the rear of the 7?

3)Will the front and rear fit the 7?

4)From your pics,in some spots,it doesnt look like they sit flush with the body.
What did you use to mount them?

gotta get front flares. the ones on the jetta in my pic are coraddo. All Mark 1 and 2 VW have almost the exact fender flares. The flares get bigger by moddle. Biggest to smallest G60>GLi>GTI>base...
