FC subframe... Without the subframe

I remember seeing a while back someone doing this. I kinda remember it being a Canadian crew. I have been wanting to do this to my car for a while now and I'm finally going to get started on it. I don't remember exactly how they did it, but basically there was no subframe and the mounts for the suspension were welded to the frame rails. It was a black 1st gen, with a lime green interior/roll cage. anyone remember this car? Or have pics of it?

The way I plan on doing it is, swapping the complete FC subframe set up. Then mounting the engine with a 1/4" aluminum plate like in tube chassis drag cars. Then removing the subframe and welding in mounting points for the A-arm's. Not exactly sure how I will mount the steering rack just yet. But most likely it will be a 1" round or square tube welded to the engine plate mount or the frame rails. I will not know until I have everything else mounted and see how it looks.

If anyone has pics of that old black and green 1st gen, post them up. It would be nice to see them for reference before I dive into my set up.

It's fantastic, all the creative modifications that people do to these cars. It would be much simpler to just buy an FC, but you are inventive.

He's already got an FC... and converted it to RHD.... Sen2Two has a short attention span and always needs a new project... :icon_tup:

Exactly... I get bored after I have been building the same car for a while. So I always need something new. And to build it different every time.

Looks like they kept the 1st gen struts and built a tubular subframe. Still very similar to what I am going to do. Too bad they never finished it. I would of liked to see what else they did to it...
