FB w/SA bumpers pics

Anyone have pictures of an FB with SA bumpers? I've seen the silver widebody FB. License plate RXTACY, IIRC. Looking for more examples with and without body side moldings.

99% sure that I'm cleaning up my '85 GSL by installing tucked SA bumpers during its resto. A little work up front on the fenders is required - got that covered.

Thanks.

ducktape did it on his SE

My 85 has an SA nose and I've been back and forth over pulling of my rear bumper off my SA and putting it on the FB...you know, so the front and rear match!

im debating swapping my SA front for an FB front so i can throw on my IMSA front end.

What's the difference ?

drittens 10-02-07 06:40 PM

biiig metal bars w/ little accordian looking things on the end vs plastic bumper covers...I think I actually prefer the SA's, kind of like how I prefer the diving board bumpered E30 BMWs to the bumper covered ones

^^^ Exactly, but tucked. Not quite as much as MontanaKid's, though. I love his car, but aesthetically, want a little more bumper.

Pics, pics, pics???

I was thinking of doing what aws140 said, since the FB has a bigger variety of front end body kits and the SA basically only has the Mariah kit or its custom made. If comparing stock with stock, I do like the SA better even though there is a greater chance of flying away when going high speeds.

sooooo - FB owners secretly wishing they had SAs??? Cut to the chase already! - and just swap out the bodies...

The SA has very defined lines, and the exterior un-molded front bumber helps. It has a much more oldskool jap look about it IMO, which is why i bought mine :)

Plus I love my accordions :hahano:

Had a couple of early FB's. Didn't like the interior of them or the earlier SA's. Would rather keep the good things, like the '84/'85 interior and small chassis changes and just clean up the lines of my FB. Besides, my wife would throw a fit if I brought another one home - gotta work with what I've got.

I have plans for fabbing my own air dam and rocker skirts. Starting with SA bumpers and not having to work with the flexible bumper covers makes the mods easier and the look clean. We'll see if I ever finish the project - super busy all the time.

Who else has done this? Thought I'd find others lurking out there.

Plus, an FB w/ SA bumpers give you the bumpers w/o people being able to simply unscrew your taillights from the outside!?!?!?!?! And, better shifter placement...

7aull 10-10-07 03:25 AM

Simple, clean bumpers for a simple, clean car - I think that's the appeal to us SA fans - uncluttered, not all the complex doo-dads...
-and nobody's tried to pull my taillights yet!

^First time I've ever heard of anyone use the words "complex doo-dads" whilst referring to an fb.

Scored!

Scored a set of primered NOS Mazda service part SA fenders yesterday - for $72! Got lucky and found them stashed away in a dank parts warehouse in Toledo. Had a thick layer of dust on them, but no dents or rust. Inventory tags show that they'd been there for 23 years!

Told the guys that I was interested in anything else RX-7 that they could scrounge up, but aside from a couple of 13B cores, this was all they had.

Had been having no luck finding fenders to be able to complete the FB --> SA "conversion", at least without forking over way too much cash for poor condition parts.

It was a great day.

Now if I could only get my hands on that SelectMaz airdam...
