Fb -> SA (exterior bumpers)
 

Ok, so searching for turning an FB into an SA doesn't work, too many small words.

So, I am sure this topic has been beaten more than the dead horse out back, but how do you go about turning a FB into an SA, exteriorwise?

I know you can do the front end, but the back I am iffy about. I hear conflicting stories about how you cant do the back end (bumpers) or that you can but its too much work, etc.

All I am looking for is the bumpers aspect. For the front I believe it is just both fenders, bumper, and under-bumper piece (whatever it is called).

SO:

1. For the front, do I need only the SA fenders and front bumper?

2. How do I get the SA rear bumper on a FB?

You'll need the lower valence panels under the bumper of SA (on both sides of grille), grille, spoiler.
I can supply a photo of an SA w/o bumper on if you want to compare body work btw it and your FB to see what your up against...

You'll need the bumper supports/shocks for the SA also since the FB's are different IIRC. The lower valance can still be bought brand new from Black Dragon for about $40 I think. You will also need the turn signal lights. The plug for the FB lights will need to be cut off and wired into the SA turn signals as they are also different. The sidemarkers in the front are slightly different also. Not sure if the plugs are different but the SA marker lenses are thinner than the FB's. As far as I know the rear bumpers should bolt up with the proper mounts/shocks. Biggest problem is tail lights/rear panel.

Not worried about the lights and whatnot. Love the bumpers most of all

That's a nice naked rear.

I want to go this route on my next fb also, including the tail lights. A little metal needs to be trimmed for the tails to fit in, and some type of blockoff plate to fill the inside gap from the lights being shorter in length. I'd like to make some composite bumpers too, but that will probably remain a dream.

In the middle of doing this with my '85 GSL, too. Have most of the components, including SA bumpers, taillights, and NOS fenders, which are a must.

Car is currently stripped and awaiting purchase of a MIG welder.

The widebody kit I have was designed for SA bumpers. I built it with FB bumpers. Finally got my ahold of a pair of SA bumpers. It looks to be a bolt on affair using the SA bumper mounts. With the front fenders being so wide, the ends of the bumper, (the accordian ends), actually recess into the fiberglass fenders.
