FB owners - why don't you own a Z?
I saw an early model (240?) Z on the street today and I thought, "man that looks nice." Since those Z cars seem to be rivals to the first gen sevens, just curious as to why you own a seven instead of a Z. For me, it was just because the stepdad had a friend who was selling one that looked dang good. And so I got the Mound.
So then, why not a Z? Right on. |
Because they're extremely rare and the only ones worth owning cost around $5,000?
That's my excuse, anyway. Those things rust out FAST and the ones that are still around are heavily cherished, and it would take a LOT of money for someone to part with his 240Z. |
Cause 7s perform better :)
Zs are sweet too though, and IMO Zs look better, but I still like 7s better. |
I do. :)
|
Bastard. :)
|
Its a 280 though. I'd rather a 240.

My mom got me the 7 as a graduation present. Since then I have caught rotoritis.

Hey! I was quoted :)

My first car was a Yellow 1973 Datsun 240Z when I was 17 years old, which I bought for 1400.00- it had a 280 lower with the 240 heads and ran strong as hell - guess I've always had a taste for two door sports cars, cause that is all I have ever owned. Next was a 87 TII and then the 93 BB R1 FD.
Unfortunately the Z was totaled due to a run in with a Mortition (big ASS ford crown vic wagon) with a dead body in the back, needless to say he couldn't stick around long cause he had to get the body in the refrigerator-My car was totalled his had a broken headlight assembly and a small dent in the fender. I held on to it for three months in hopes of trying to fix but in the end, I had to part with her. Damn I miss that 240Z more than my TII and would pick up another in a heartbeat in very clean and original condition-has to be a 240 and either Yellow or Orange. |
240 Z's are sweet I've seriously thought of trying to find one around here.
|
I don't like any of the Z cars. They don't have the timeless appeal of the 1st gens. I think they are "hokey" cars.
|
off to first gen specific...
|
my friends got a 240z with a chevy 350 in it, the cars got a lot of rust on it but i still think it looks cool, he loves that car it is fast his 0-60 is in the low 6's but i still make fun of him cause he has a chevy engine in the car. his dream is to have a 240z with a 20b in it.
|
they are nice cars, just really expenseve to fix,http://www.z31.com/
|
i always liked them, but all the examples around here are either rusted to crap , or 'don't touch' show cars. it was bad enough trying to pry the GSL-SE outta the last owners hands, those Z-guys are even worse :)
|
I had one.......
I used to have one, a 73 240? Anyway I did a timing chain, and head job on a toyota 4 runner, the kid couldn't pay me so he gave me the car, that was in need of a little care.......
So I took the car which ran like a charm, cleaned it up, and was GOING to keep it, but I was in the process of also getting ready for a HUGE diving trip to the Galapagos Islands, and my BC broke, so I had to sell the car, I ended up selling it for 500.00..... I made a vey very big mistake. I could have got 3grand for that car, so I have been told! Diving trip was fun though! |
pistons. and very scarce.
|
the 240's have that timeless appeal... the 280's weren't quite as cool. i test drove an 82 280...it didn't handle near as well as my 7(same year) and didn't feel as quick. the z even had headers(my 7 didn't, yet). now my friend's old 240(not sure of the year, but one of the first z's) was waaaay faster than my 79 rx-7. it ran perfectly and was gorgeous(crappy paint and all). it would've made a fantastic resto/daily driver until some bastard firebombed it in his front yard.
|
I had an early 280Z and it was one fast mother. I like the lines of the rex better, though. The handling and brakes on the RX-7 are better than that old 280Z, too. Probably had something to do with the heavy engine front bias of the 280Z's design...
|
Because I am Addicted to first gens and have been since high school:D
(The first step is admitting you have a problem right) |
i also enjoy the z cars.
Reasons not to buy. 1. craptactular semi trailing rear IS. 2. cost 3. piston motor 4. weight- 2800 for a 240 sound right. 5. 71-72 240's are a tad too old. 6. no z car other than the first gen 240's look correct. bumper guards etc. |
rx-7s are lighter, seem to handle better, and look cooler. and rotaries are the stuff of legend.
i'm a big fan of the popup headlights. not to mention that super-cool 4x110 bolt pattern oooowee! |
i always liked them, but all the examples around here are either rusted to crap , or 'don't touch' show cars. |
Z's are cool, but 7's are the shiznit!!! I started with a 93, just got a 83, thinking about getting a 91. I got the fever!
