FB newb, buying advice

So I'm looking at a FB now, owner says the car won't start unless the carb is primed. I'm a noob when it comes to carbs or FB.. so how big of a project and repair $$ am I looking at? I'm a fd owner for the past 12 years or so. Get me started on this. Thanks guys.

Welcome-
bit of an open question without knowing the cars history. And of course you are at the mercy of the owners honesty on this! At the very least it needs a new fuel filter - but if the car has sat a long time, bad gas will add to the troubles. Now the flip side is, short of a damaged engine, this can be a great negotiating tool since I would not be paying a prime $$ for a car that has "starting issues" and this forum is full of stories of guys buying RXs with such problems quite cheaply then solving the issues with some diligent back-yard mechanics!

At this point I am not offering any useful solutions to your question, but others will chime in as well. You will likely have to Bite the Bullet and get the car before we can start any serious diagnosis. The condition of the rest of the car and the actual price will have to guide you to start I think.

If you have pix and/or want to give more details on the rest of the car, maybe we can help you assess its worth. I state the obvious that there are still a lot of RX7 out there, with varying needs and prices. The old saying about "buy the best you can afford" is true. Or it can be "cheap now, pay for it later" if you get a "deal"...

according to history it still runs fine after it is started via priming. would this still point to a fuel filter issue? it also was driven regularly until recently when the problem developed. the car seems very clean and stock with low miles ~82k. would 3k be a good price? clean title with no body damage.

Sounds kind of high with starting issues. What is the year and model?

Definitely a good model to get as it has the larger front spidles and rear axles and LSD. I would probably pay 2 grand for it with the starting issues. Carbs are not terribly hard to work on and lots of info here. The fuel pump could not be functioning as well, my FB did not start at all but just needed a new fuel pump.
