and how in hell would you transfer the VIN # from that vehicle to his. Paper only is useless.

I went through a similar thing w/ one of my 7s getting it tagged after a few years in the shop. Guess what? For a car that old you don't even need a title, just a bill of sale or similar document. That would be in Georgia you know.

i said ez not legal..the numbers wont match at all...but the will give him a tag and he can get his car on the rd...now if they ever stop him and look at numbers it wasint my idea lol

quick fix not a good fix

What police officer would ever check if all numbers match on a 80-something car? All you need to worry about is the plate & who it is licensed to. Like FB RX-7s raise a red flag as a stolen car. Relax already.

shit shit shit!!!

Rotarx7 12-20-05 05:47 PM

i think im just gonna part it out and transfer everything to my 83 Turbo. The only thing w that is that i cant stand the S2 dashboard, another thing is that i dont have a garage to work on both cars anymore. Whos got a garage i can use to do all this? ill give you an SE motor!! =D

Dont worry about CHP or DMV looking at smog gear.Your not trying to register the thing right now, just obtain ownership of it.For all they know, your gonna make a racecar out of it or somn'.......smog compliance and smog gear doesnt mean shit until youve obtained the title, paid the fees and are attempting to get a current tag.
When you go for the tags, then worry about smog gear.Until then, dont sweat the smog gear,so long as you have a red sticker/ferry pass in the window if your driving the car on the road.If you tow the car around on a trailer for the DMV/CHP stuff, you dont even need the red sticker.Dont worry.....

If the dash tag is gone, then its gone.
Its rivited to a crispy 20 year old plastic vent for Christ's sake. Its gonna get thrashed after all these years. The dash tag should be low on their list of concerns considering its not even part of the dashboard main structure.Tell them to match the permanently impressed VIN number under the hood,on the firewall......and the VIN number thats on the drivers side doorjam sticker. Those two are permanent and should match. The flimsy little plastic defroster vent VIN plate dont mean sh*t,its just there for metermaids and officers to check your VIN if the car is parked and they cant obtain acess to the VIN's under the hood and doorjamb.......
