Extreme backfiring problem.

I gota 80' fb and think im running a little bit too rich. Yesterday i was shifting into second and the muffler gernaded. So dose ne one have a write up for a rebuild on the carb never done it before or maybe if i can just tune it a little leaner. thanks

check the FAQ's, about half way down the page there are several links to trouble shooting, fixing and rebuilding nikki's.

secondly, the carb may not be the issue...there could have been a leak in the exhaust allowing air in, causing the back fire

lastly, '80 rx-7's are SA's

good luck rebuilding your carb, i haven't tackled that job yet but rather replaced my stock carb w/ a more performance orientd one when i started having troubles

Yes, definitely take care of any leaks in the exhaust as they will cause massive backfires. Also, check your timing....

Well i was thinking that it was the carb bc i have had bad flooding while driving "spiitly". It will dog out in third after takin it through 1st and 2nd.

so i was taking a look in the carb while my buddie was revin it and the larger throttle body isnt opening so i opened it with a screw driver and it ran alot smoother. Should they open and if so why are they not.

You've just described a clogged fuel filter. Change it and this will not happen anymore... :)

The secondaries will not open unless you are going down the road. The only exception to this, is if you have converted them to mechanical operation (see FAQ section if you don't understand what that is).

Run a search on Seafoam. It will be your new best friend...

Alot of the backfiring on the Sa models has been traced to the function of the Dashpot. Make sure it is adjusted correctly and operating as it should be.

Great sorry but what is the dashpot.
