EXPERTS? ARE ALL 84/85 gas tanks the same?

I need a fuel tank for my 84 gsl-se 13b, and someone has said that all 84/85 tanks are the same. Can a very knowledgeable person verify this?? Thanks.

The tanks are the same but you will have to change that round thing were the hoses connect on the tank (the fuel lines are bigger on the SE), other than that there is no difference.

I've got a tank for an SE. Do you want it? Email me.

no, it would take too long... thanks anyway.

No they are not the same, had to get mine professionally re-coated on the inside. The pick up is not the only difference. I can't remember the exact specifics but I would shell out the money for a new one. If I ever need a tank again I will not piss around, It;s the most important part , if your fuel is dirty all else is fubar. Just incase anyone ever trys I got the last two fuel lines in the world from Japan so it's make your own from here on(for the 84-85 SE). Boy sure miss my car, had $8000 invested including the price to buy it and had to sell last year. All you take care and enjoy!

funny thing because in the mazdatrix catalog they have the same part # and I had both out side by side and they are the same at the exception of the pickup tube assembly so to answer the initial question YES all 84-85 gas tanks are the same.

Well if I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it, If it is just the pick ups than good for you, more options the better. I will still say pay for a new one and forget about it, no better piece of mind than knowing the important parts are new. Good luck. :)

ugh, unfortunately, 7addict - you are right.... I have tried 2 tanks so far there is just too many minor differences... I'll keep looking...
