exhuast over heat light

Ok i was driving the 7 today after not driving it for 3 weeks bc i sold the holley fuel pump and installed a stock 1. I was also having starter problems. Well the exhuast over heat light came on. I am running a stright pipe from the mani back never had it come on before. I opened the hood didnt seem to be hotter than normal should I be worried?

Might want to make sure you still have spark on the leading plugs. Is the car running right? Maybe check the timing while you're at it. A retarded spark could be overheating the pipes...

after checking the ignition, check the wiring for the sensor. maybe it's grounding out somewhere.

what carburetor are you running and in what condition is it?

ok but where is this sensor? I have nothing on my exhuast system. Car runns fine needs a little tuning since i swiched from a holley blue fuel pump back to stock.

Probably a short from not having the sensor installed.
There is a floor sensor under the pass. side carpet, but on my 84 there was also a braided steel wire running to a pyrometer behind the main cat.If that isnt plugged in and working, then it very well could be responsible for the false light.
If your not running any cat and the exhaust heat sheilding is still in place, then its probably nothing to worry about.....unless you peak under the car when the light is on and see some orange-hot pipes. My turbo and cat regularly glow red and Ive never once tripped my floor heat sensor.

The sensor goes thought the floor under the driver side storage bin IIRC. It's a braided steel line as mentioned. I have mine disconnected and have no issues.

My se had the complete oposite problem. Cat was pluged and cought my floor on fire but no warning light. LOL that was fun
