engine removal
 

Hey guys, i'm wondering how i can get my engine out of my car without owning a proper lift, how difficult is it? and i'm also considering doing my own rebuild, how difficult with this be...for an amature, i intend on taking my sweet time with this project. and ideas or hints?

Rent a lift, and then take your time on the engine. Shouldnt be too hard, although, Ive never done it. I think that if you can follow directions well (the manual), get the right pieces (complete rebuild kit), have the right tools (torque wrench, metric socket set, metric open end wrnches, impact gun, etc), and are attentive to detail (Direct Freak, lol), you should be fine :).

Unhook and unbolt everything. Get a friend, a chain and a lenght of 4x4 wood and lift that sucker out. It's about 250 pounds, so it shouldn't be to heavy, unless your a girl or something.

You don't need a lift to get it out. But, you will need one to put it back in.

i picked mine out with my bare hands!! but i guess you need strength to do it huh??

Just buy a chain winch and use your rafters in your garage, if you have one. I used the rafter and it works no probs... I did reinforce the rafters though with an extra 4x4 and two 4x4 posts that I prop in place when I'm pulling an engine.

I got the engine outside hanging right now! :D

:withstupi except without the reinforcement. Ive pulled 5-10 engines and no worries. I have a piece of black iron pipe between 2 rafters that supports the chain.

that works. I'm using just one rafter with two support beams added for security... probably don't need em' in reality. Not like I'm pulling a big v8 w/trans ;)
