Damnit....post didn't work right the first time. Oh well....here it is again.

I need some troubleshooting help. I am looking at buying an '85 GSL from a friend....but the darned thing won't start. I've been messing around with it trying to figure out what the problem might be...and discovered that the trailing coil isn't emitting any spark. I have replaced the coil and still no spark. Any suggestions?

Trailing ignitor, on the dizzy. That won't keep it from running though.

bad igniter
the trailing igniter is on the side of the distributor facing the alternator

Unfortunately, I have already tried replacing the trailing AND leading igniters....didn't seem to help too much. When I crank the engine all I get is the occasional sputter and alot of exhaust detonation. I'm really starting to get discouraged over this.

Perhpas flooded by cranking it without spark?

DavidM Mar 19, 2003 09:17 AM

It might be flooded from cranking with no spark....but I doubt it.....I attempted cranking it for a bit with the fuel pump turned off to try and flush it out just in case.

I'm really new at this rotary stuff. I know this is probably going to get me in trouble for saying this....but I think I might just buy the damned thing and put a chevy 350 in it....I have one of those sitting in my garage.
