Electrical gremlins???

My usually reliable 85-Se has started giving me trouble. A week ago, I kept blowing the engine fuse and while trying to find the short discovered that if I jerk the wire going to the air supply valve for the a/c it would blow the fuse. Since my compressor is not working at the moment, I simply disconnected the ASV connecter and all would be well I thought. I started it up yesterday after messing with the oil filter adapter and it ran fine for 15 minutes, warmed up and then just died out while idling all of a sudden. I checked the fuse, it was fine. Tried to start it several times but no luck. I thought I had flooded the engine anyway so i just let it sit overnight. This morning, before trying to do anything, i thought i should try starting it for the heck of it. To my surprise, it starts right up, smokes like a mofo for 5 minutes and then I revved it up a little and held the rpm between 2K and 3K. After a few minutes, it then starts to cough and sputter and as soon as i let off the gas, it dies. Did not start right after. I removed the plugs, they were fouled up, cleaned them up. Bad ignitor, I thought so i connected one of the leading plug wires to a spark plug and checked for spark. Again to my surprise, it sparked so i hooked up everything and tried to start it. But it would not start. My question is has anyone had an ignitor work in fits and starts or do they just die out once and for all? I can hear 3 distinct clicks from my rotors so I am pretty sure, it's not the apex seals. I want some feedback from you rotary gurus out there on the sequence of steps i need to take. Oh by the way, distributer cap and rotor, accel wires, msd coils, all fairly new with less than 2K miles on them.
