Driveshaft is talking to me
 

Hey guys see if you can help me here.. My driveshaft "I believe" is making a funny noise,,, I put the car in reverse and I hear a sound alot like when your pads are gone and the little metal is touching the rotor.. It only happens when I engage the clutch.. My thoughts are when there is a load the driveshaft or something is tapping . It also those it in forward just not as loud... I was wondering if this has happened to anyone .. Thanks ahead

Ps once I press the clutch in, the noise go's away..... ANd it only happens when I am moving, once I get past like 5 mile ann hour it goes away completely...

Sounds like a release bearing or something of that effect. Hard to know for sure without seeing the car in person.

I kinda got a squeal when I start driving in first or reverse too. Don't know, I'll have to check it out.

Can you please stop calling it a drive shaft, eccentric isn't that hard to spell thank you.... sorry but it's a pet peeve of mine, it's anti-rotary, you might as well be consulting us on cams. That being said if you've had you clutch replaced recently then you should bleed your master cylinder first, after doing this, get in the most awkward position you can imagine underneath your pedals and with a ten mm wrench you can adjust the push-rod(little rod coming off the clutch pedal) witch operates the piston. Adjust it so that its all of the way out and see if you still have a problem. If so your eccentric shaft might be unbalanced or possibly but hopefully not bent.

So what is it saying to you anyways? "FIX MEEE... FIXXX MEEE.."

u-joints need to be changed, or replace driveshaft.. it would be good to do this soon, if the u-joint breaks it could lead to much bigger problems

Actually, it's called a propeller shaft in the FSM. :) Gotta love the Japanese to English translations.

I think hes talking about that big long metal pipe thingy that comes out of the rear of the shifter thingy and goes back to the big bubble wichiamahigger bettween the tires that make them go round and round. Not the engine shezuz.

My car made the same squeal finally my clutch went out. I bought one of those everything included kits and replaced it squeal no more.

The old throwout was kinda rough and I think thats what was squealing.

Actually it sucks balls.

You gotta remove the drive shaft the Exhaust All the heat shields to remove the drive shaft (make sure you mark the u-joint so you match it back up correctly those little plates on the shaft are balancers). Remove the starter. Other various wires and sensors like the back up sensor and the spedo cable. Then you have to drain the transmission (make sure to do it cause if you don't the oil leaks out the back). Then drop the tranny, and some of the bolts are hard to get to on the top of the tranny.

If your going in there you may as well replace the whole clutch and pressure plate. Make sure to check out the flywheel too if its bad enough may as well replace it too. My kit cost me like 50 or so bucks. It will have everything you need to do it including the alignment tool.

dont replace flywheel just take it to a machine shop to get it turned"smothed surface for clutch"

All right guys thanks for the input, and no my clutch has not been replaced lately,,, I am gonna go ahead and just replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing.....

You guys did confuse the Crap out of me.... So the long metal thingy:rlaugh: coming out of the tranny is not called a drive shaft?

Another thing that might be a factor, I replaced both my slave and master clutch cylinders.. I think I have a leak some where cause after about a month I seem to be loosing pressure. I bleed and I'm good ,, This has only once since I just replaced them,,, Maybe I didn't bleed it properly, I will do It again today, just to be sure..

quick fix ive done them @ the track under 30 minutes :wallbash: your regular mechanic should do in abour 1 1\2 hour :icon_tup:

Yea I'm pretty sure you dont have stock exaust and all the heat shields and stuff on your car that might well have bolts that havent moved in 20 or so years though if your doing it at the track :) And I'm also pretty sure you did'nt do it with minimal space. My icon over there is a picture of when I replaced my clutch thats all the higher I could get it off the ground.

papo thats is called the driveshaft :icon_tup: please dont do the rookie mistake and resurface your flywheel:wallbash: , chances are you will get a vibration out of the motor and then some one will tell you, you need a rebuild and is gonna cost you $1500.00 then you will get pissed and sell the car for $300.00 when the only thing wrong from the getgo was a freaking trow out bearring :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

Hes right on this one, unless it is really messed up, but do take some emery cloth and some steel wool to it to remove the glaze that most surely will be there.
