Drive shaft

Does anyone have measurements/ parts list on getting a drive shaft together for a TII swap in a 12a car? Id like to be able to have it ready to go in the car once the engines in.(one weekend hopefully(crazy yes I am)). If anyone has this information it would be much apriciated!

There's no parts list or specific dimensions. When you get the engine and transmission mounted in the car exactly where theyll sit - then you can measure. Sucks, because I'm dealing with the same thing right now too

High nitro gave me his measurement of his drive shaft. Should be the same as long as I extend the engine mount 20mm. Next question would be if there is a difference in length of the pinion housing on the axle. (8?-83 vs 84-85vs gslse?)

I got my TII driveshaft from a company in texas called thrash-driveshaft. I think they may be called "the driveshaft shop" now though. They had both thr slip yoke and the pinion flange in stock. They told me how to measure it, it took about 2 weeks till it was at my door, and it was under $300. Highly recommend them.

Ill have to check them out then!

I got my shaft made at Fleet Pride. they used my old parts and put them on a new shaft, was about $150 and took a few hours.

I called Mazdatrix. I measured about 4 times, but I arrived at 41 7/8". Given that measurement, they shipped a driveshaft that fits perfectly. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to contact me via pm or post back here.

Is that from tailshaft to axle?

Tail shaft seal to flange on the diff. I measured mine quite a few times as I was wary. I did tell Mazdatrix that I have an s4 t2 trans with an SE diff/rear end. Theoretically, the driveshaft should be the same length as an SE shaft but with the t2 yoke. I couldn't get a firm number on the length of a stock SE shaft.

I have a driveshaft from a gsl-se car with trans ill try to verify if its still the gsl se trans and driveshaft it was in a car with a 12a if I remember correct.

TII yoke on gsl shaft? that's what I'm doing.

Kaaarl12a 04-29-13 08:28 AM

That sounds simple enough. Are the trunion sizes all the same between the 2 driveshafts?

Yes I believe so I read it in a thread and someone said they're the same and you can use 3/4 ton Dodge ujoints that have zerk fittings.

I may have some of them ujoints here at work! Unless they are for a gasser not a diesel.

This is a pretty common way to go. However, I have a drivetrain shop just 15min down the road and I'm tempted to have them build me a complete custom driveshaft for only about $50 more. I believe they use Ford U-Joint sizes but I'm not sure - have to search some more.
