You can increase the torque some to get more crush in the stack of plates. But you have to go in the proper order and have a torque wrench. Cant remember the recomended torque. 25 ft lbs is standard IIRC, and it was somewhere around 29-30 as the increase IIRC. Was either mazdatrix/RB/Or mazdacomp who had that recomendation. Still may not solve your leak-o-death as the o-ring itself is prolly hard and crusty.

I don't think the leak is fatal. Just clean the engine with Gunk once a month. Sometimes people even succeed stopping it with JB Weld. One of my cars has it and runs just fine. And all old engines leak a little.

I don't want to steal somebody else's thread, but I,ve got that dowel pin leak. That's the reason I got myself a parts car so I could take its engine and rebuild it this winter. I was just curious about the ''fatal leak'' part. Also, how will cleaning the engine with gunk once a month help? What about JB weld (I hear miracles with this stuff but I still don't know what it is!)

If this helps, I start my RX7 once a week, I have to add coolant once a month (no it's not the rad nor the cap). She never overheats even if I drive her hard. How fatal is this leak??

Robert of rotaryshack has stated in the past that his shop torques that bolt significantly more than even 40 ft.lbs to kill the leak....and only at the dowel pin region. JBWeld has not helped Furious Rex...:((
