Door & Hatch weatherstrippings from RA (Fairchild brand)

So I know that Fibremaz and Phil's Rotary's (both from AU) sell replacement weatherstripping, but RA has some as well. Searching the forum leads to the Metro brands that RA use to sell, but not anymore.
RA offers the "Fairchild" brand and from the pictures they look pretty good, however, this is only for the doors and hatch rubber, nothing for the taillight or center panels.
Has anyone ever tried them?

Rockauto has the Fairchilds and at $44 a pair, they are very inexpensive, the Metros used to run more like $65/pair (FAIRCHILDKMZ3000):

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=1430&jsn=414

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...therstrip,1430

Rockauto also has door seals made by Precision (PRECISIONDWP971079) listed at $64.79, maybe these are the new Metros?

I hope the Fairchild units are made by the same factory that made the Metros, I've used the Metros for years, they fit and work great.

The taillight and center piece seals are much harder to come by. The only ones I've seen were from a company out of Australia a few years ago, who were just selling some generic weather stripping that looked like the original seals but without the molded curves needed to fit snuggly around the taillights. I bought some, they were junk.

I have the Rock Auto door seals on my 84 (I believe the fairchild brand). Their fit to the doors is good, the cabin is very quiet and it doesn't leak water. They do seem a bit puffy and get slightly pinched between the a-pillar trim and the door. I would recommend them.

I went through the same thing, tried those Australian gaskets from Phil's Rotary and they were crap. OP, I've been working on making replacement tail light gaskets that actually work for our cars and have had mine on my car for almost a year now and haven't had any problems. If you are willing to pay shipping and provide feedback/photos on the fitment and your thoughts I will send you a pair for free. I'd like another set of eyes and for them to be on another car before I start selling them to more people.

I'd be happy to give your taillight gaskets a try chrimstream and give you feedback, they look like they're very well made.

And if anyone wants a set of those Phil's Rotary gaskets please let me know, I'm pretty sure i didn't throw them out.

Making these available would be a real service to the community.

Are these for a SA ( 78-80? ) The phills ones are junk and cracked my lenses .

Also for seals
Window channel : Mazda OEM .
Inner and outer window seal : Atkins Rotary
Door seal : Atkins Rotary if you want to save money , Mazda OEM otherwise ( pricey) .
Rear hatch Any brand works well
Sunroof , mazda oem , you cant afford a leaky sunroof , it will ruin your headliner.

Great info, thanks. I'll update this thread once I receive and install the strips from RA.

My seals arrived yesterday, not installed yet but very nicely made, they should be a good water tight fit. I'll report back when I put them in.

Does anyone have pictures of the aftermarket door seals installed? I really need some and was planning for OEM, but would rather not spend hundreds of dollars..

Are they noticeably aftermarket? The pinching comment above is my biggest hang-up. I bought new seals from Mazda a few years ago for another FB and it was a glorious thing (they are perfect!).

Only the OEM fit perfect. My atkins ones took about 5 months to break in.

I'm still waiting for the seals from RA to arrive. I'll update this thread after I get them installed.
From my understanding the oem seals are NLA, I believe that's what I read in another thread...

There are actually 4 different seals for each door. The main door to body opening, the window channel felt and an inner and outer seals that go up against the glass. These different seals get mentioned and people get confused, thinking its a different part in question. I believe its the outer seal to the base of the glass that is NLA from Mazda, however Atkins and another source offer a replacement option.

I believe its the main R & L door seals in question here (8871-58-760 & 59-760). These are still available from the dealer. I just checked and got back a price of right at $100 a piece. Of course, there will be shipping and tax added on to that before they reach your door.

100$ for OEM door seals is dirt cheap , the last time I checked the set ran me like 350$ (145$ + shipping and tax each)
The only oem part i have is the window channel , my door seals are atkins and they took 3-4 months to break in . I had to give the door a good push and pull , now it closes with minimal effort. Mazda ones close perfect day 1 .

I agree that I've never had a problem with the OEM door seals. I was also surprised at the price that was listed. I've bought quite a few of these previously and remember them being more in the $130 range. The dealers who sell on the internet usually do so at a discount to offset the shipping. I used to get a lot of stuff from Balise Mazda, but they suspended their online sales a couple of years ago.

I bought the taillights and center garnish plate seals, the window bailey channel on the door frames and the inner and outer window seals on the doors from Fibremaz and they were perfect….send a pm to Alexis Tretheway from Fibremaz…..he is in Australia but he is the best….

He can get you a whole car seal set for a great price….

Update...

I received the weatherstripping from RA and installed most of them.

The weatherstrip that goes around the door fit great and aligned perfectly. All of the plastic clips lined up correctly in the holes. Closing the door required more force as the weatherstrip is new, but after a week of leaving the door closed its starting to get a little easier. The car is inside the garage so I'm assuming it'll start to get easier when it sits in the sun and with more open/closing.

The inner and outer door weatherstrip (inner has felt, outer is like a scraper) that sits horizontally along the glass also fit great. Both inner and outer needed to be cut about an inch as it was too long, but this was after multiple installs and removals to make sure I got it fitting right as I did not want to cut it. It turned out great in the end.

I haven't installed the hatch weatherstrip but based on the others, I'm sure it's going to be fine. I'll get it installed this weekend and report back.

I did not purchased/replace the weatherstrip in the window channel (bailey channel).

I also have "chirmstream's" taillight gasket and those will be installed once I receive the outer gasket finisher for the taillights and center panel.

So Fairchild weatherstripping from RA gets a thumbs up for quality, fit, and price!
