Dont lie on floor after A/C removal.
 

Well I removed my A/C in my enclosed garage... fans off because i wasnt doing anything to stink or smoke it up. I then proceded to crawl under my car to remove my tranny and drive shaft... after about a minute under my car my chest started to throb and i felt a lack of air so i ran out side and kind of got my breath back. I am assuming this is due to freon displacing the air in my garage. bad for health in the long run im not sure but i sure hope someone can tell me if i should go to the doctor cause my chest was soar for about 3 hours afterwards.

Freon is an aphixiant, it displaces the oxygen, it can also be one hell of a hallucinogen. lol. Don't ask. Ask far as being toxic and remaining the blood stream, check the poison hotline.

yeah you can get poisoning from a/c depending which type it is. i'd get yourself checked out since it can make you very sick.

when i removed mine on my supra we used bolt cutters on the lines, then left the car sit for a good half hour or so.

when i took mine off, there was nothing in the system, so i got lucky

when did they phase out CFC's in auto AC systems? If it does have them, i think it's illegal.

R12 isn't illegal to own or install. It's illegal to *make*, and illegal to vent. Not that you'd want to vent it, anyway, as it's worth quite a lot of money, although I think the value leveled off around the $80/pound mark. At that point, it makes more sense to do an R134a conversion, which is what most people have done.

I haven't put R12 in a system for a *long* time, not since it was $50/pound. That's around when we started doing the conversions. R12 is still available, and most A/C shops still have some in stock if you want it in your car...

everythings illegal nowadays...especially if it was produced on a car like 20 years ago...besides I dont think its illegal to own...but rather illegal to produce anymore...
