does your parking brake hold?
 

I have adjusted my parking brake several turns,,and they still wont stop/hold the rear tires,,,,is there anything that I can do to the rear gizmos to make them at least slow down the car in case my brakes ever go out and need the hand brake to help stop the car,,,,

Doesn't seem like it... I've adjusted mine several times and I remember reading all about the horrible e-brakes we have in our first gens. And if you have disks in the rear, your e-brake will be even weaker (than drums) :(

As long as I can lock em enuf to do 180s then I'm good to go :)

Just be honest, u want to drift and slide and do all the fun stuff that destroys tires. I know i do!

Geeze, my parking brake works just fine. And my driveway is STEEP. I have disc brakes too, never had a problem with them yet.

Yeah, what gives? Mine works fine too! When I did the drum rearend to a LSD with disc's rear end, I had to readjust to make them work, and they work normal as they should? You must have a problem with your cables, handbrake, or the levers on the calipers.

Mine was enough to hold the car on a steep incline. e-brakes aren't very practical in stopping in my opinion, if the brakes go out, most people would panic and just yank it causing the wheels to lock and lose control. With that said, while you're driving yank up hard on your e-brake, it'll stop you without locking the tires. I had 4 wheel disk so i know it'll stop you with drums.

Mine works fine for doing it's real job, holding it in place when it's parked. If you need the e-brake to drift and slide, then you need to learn how to drive :)

My e-brake works too good! It sticks and it won't let go when I take it off! On my old Protege I used to be able to pry the e-brake loose using a screwdriver on the back wheels.

If I want to unstick the one on my 85 gs (drum rear) how do I go about doing it? Is there something that I can pop loose in the back so that the break will give and stop dragging? Help is appreciated!

Mine won't hold on a steep incline (like my driveway)... Hmmm... I've replaced the drum and shoes and adjusted them and have tested them numerous times. I am soon going to switch to disc but what is wrong with my e-brake?

now, i have an 80. with drums. mine works excellent. where are you adjusting yours at? on the handle, or in the drums?

i'm adjusting from the handle, i have rear disk, are you saying that there is an adj at the wheel area also? mine will hold somewhat but i would like for it to be able to lock up (for stopping/slowing not for playing).

if the cable is streatched, are they easy to replace,,,

Dont ALL rally car drivers (in which drifting and sliding are 95% of the run) use handbrakes, for this exact purpose?

not usually, drifting is all about corner entry. break the rear wheels loose or all wheels loose (awd) before you hit the apex, therfore facing the apex thru the turn and coming out full speed. only wrong wheel drive cars need ebrake. hahahahhahahaha :) granted the ebrake can allow you to swipe the ass end around if you dont have the horsepower, but it's definitley not needed.

Ahhh, cool, I cant afford tyres, so I actually stay away from drifting. . . although. . . I'm tempted - especially after seeing the awesome drifts in the Techedenics 3000 Gumball Rally DVD. . . idiots. . . (not). . . see that BMW go? The way they treated those poor cars.

To answer your question donna,,, yes . It's not too diffacult to replace. are you disk or drums ? how much adjustment is left on your handle ??

Mine's holds great, just gotta make sure to pull it all the way up.

Mine work so great, I just though I'd praise them here like the rest...;)

We have a GSL-SE and an S.

The S has always worked fine.
My SE didn't.
Turns out 2 of the cables were broken, lol...
