Does this look normal? Brake Boost

Does this look normal to you? I'm about to replace the master brake cylinder and noticed that the rod came out as well. I cleaned it up and it looks okay but I'm wondering if it's supposed to do that.

not normal, but put it back and see if it holds vacuum

hmm. I went digging through my inventory of parts and found another booster from an SE I once had. It did the same thing. Rod, rubber gasket and metal washer all came out in my hand with little or no force.

I'm going to do as you suggested and cross my fingers that it holds the vacuum. I won't have the car running for a while so I'll have to put it together, get the car running, and then test out the brakes. Thanks.

I've never had one actually come out, but that rod is able move around quite a bit with the master cyl off. I wouldn't worry too much about it assuming you can put it back together with no problems.

its fine as long as the o ring is good.

O-ring looked good. I cleaned the years of crap from around the opening and the ring itself and put it back together. Time will tell.

Thanks for all the input.

The rod is attached to the diapram (sp?) last time I checked. Personally, I wont use that booster.
