does the clutch have to be pushed in when you start the car?
 

i was wondering if anyone has to have thier clutch pushed in when they start thier car. i know almost every car out there you need it pushed in just for the car to turn over, but mine fires right up even when i dont have it pushed in. i was just wondering.

no. there is not clutch lock out or interlock or whatever they call it.

This is a good thing when your cylinder goes out and you the only way to get in gear is to turn the car off.

you don't have to push it in but you should, less wear and tear on the starter since it only has to turn the engine over, not the trans as well.

or you could put it in neutral before you start it.... less wear and tear on the clutch! :D

Only the throwout bearing. I need a new clutch anyway, so I guess I don't really care about my current one. :D

if my engine is fully up to temp, with the car in gear and clutch engaged, I crank the engine and the car will lunge forward and idle going about 2 miles per hour.

I had to start my car like that a couple of times.

Once stuck at a red light on the freeway exit ramp with a toasted slave cylinder. I was praying the car would take off so I wouldn't cause a traffice jam. Sure enough, after two ackward lunges I was back in business, smoooth as silk. They really built these cars to weather the storm, didn't hey?
