Do you Latch your hood
 

My hood is very bent and does not latch very good. I was thinking of just letting it stay unlatched.

any problems or concerns I should know about?

yes.... keep it latched. they have latches for a reason.

On the 1st gens, actually, I don't think it's much of a safety issue as the hoods open in reverse.

I know all cars with standard hoods have a safety catch, but no car with a reverse opening hood has had one. (Mid 80's Honda Preludes and BMW 3 series') I also know reverse opening hoods are exempt from the annual Virginia State safety inspection's hood latch check.

It's more of a security issue.

If you'd like it to latch, why not loosen up the bolts that hold the latch to the firewall, shut the hood, then tighten the bolts again...

Just loosen the bolts a little... So that the latch will move around with some force, but so it'll stay put when you open the hood.

I almost always leave mine up. But.....being that I have alot of people checking out my car lately....I'm gonna leave it latched shut.

The hinge support section was pushed forward when the car was wrecked and the hood bent. To latch it is actually sitting on the wiper cowl when closed.

You're gonna need a little more body work then...

Nothing a tree and some rope won't fix.

It will be going on the frame machine over christmas.

But, except for the hooligan potential, there is no reason to close the hood securely. Even on a big bump, it'll go up only for a second, I imagine...

If you are dislexic and are drag racing, but accidently go in reverse it could serve a problem. The airflow might lift the hood and block your line of vision and veiw of the opponents tail lights. Thus causing you to freak out and pull on the E-brake, spinning your car in a 180 and then go the right directon! Followed by your rotary engine kicking the tail in reverse of the rice rocket that was dumb enough to race you. If that doesnt happen not much will.

my hood starts to levitate at 82 miles per hour. if i go 80 it stays down, if I go 90 it will just hover about 7 inches high, freaks people out sometimes but it wont go any higher than that, too much force pushing it down.

haha, what happens if you slam on your brakes?? does it go flying forward and rip itself off of the car, going spinning through the air decaptitating all who stand in its way??

Haha , hasn't happened yet, actually i made a prop/latch so the hood can be held about an inch in the air, which gives me true cowl induction with my airbox mod. Like i said, nothing bad ever happened but I am sure in the wrong circumstances a decapitation or two could occur.

latch it. Honestly, leaving the hood open looks gay.

my 74 datsun 260z hAd a safety latch on the reverse opening hood it came up too any time semi passed me and at other inoppertune times, like when cop around , my seven hood has come up too, reminds me of forrest gump stupid is as stupid does
