do i need to rebuilt my engine yet?
 

i have a 84 GSL se
with 99K miles on it
i feel like the car is still fast
but i can not go fast enought in the first gear
is that the transmission problem?
if i want to rebuilt the engine
how much $$ will it cost me?

your engine shouldnt despiratly need a rebuild now but it depends on how the car was taken car of and driven before you got it. if i had the money though i would do it anyway, rebuild kits come it all different price ranges, depending on the level of the rebuild. if your car doesnt have any major problems i would get a basic rebuild, new gaskets, rotor seals, etc. revolutionrotary.com has a good basic rebuild kit for $640

edit: the $640 kit is for the 12A only i think but im not sure, check out the site, they have decent prices.

99k miles, if it was/is taken care of properly then it's not even half way through it's lifespan.

If it feels slower than it should be, then check and make sure everything else is working right. Make sure the 5th and 6th ports are working properly. Check the cat converters to make sure they aren't plugged. When was the last time it had a basic tuneup? Get new plugs(NGK), plugwires(NGK), cap, rotor, and a k&n air filter. You can also get a compression test done, but those can cost some $ and if te engine was taken care of at all then the compression will be fine.

I might offend some people here, but a stock 1st gen isn't known for its straight line speed. They are awesome cars, great handling, but they are also ~20 years old, and I think they need some mods to make them a "quick" car. For the -SE's, get a racing beat or mindtrain exhaust system and it should make you happy.

gsl-se motors were the most rugged of any 13B and they last a looong time. Check the compression in both rotors. If it was taken care off, you will see the readings easily over 100psi at that mileage and that would mean a rebuild is not necessary.
