DLIDFIS & California Smog Visual
Hey all, I'll be switching my ignition setup on my 85 GSL over to DLIDFIS for obvious reasons. However I'm worried it may fail the California visual smog inspection. If anything it will probably improve the sniffer numbers though. Has anyone in the people's republic of California been hassled by smog techs about this?
Thanks! |
I too would think it could reduce hydrocarbons. It certainly smells like it does.
j9fd3s may have some direct fire experience with emissions testing. |
i would make the DLTGIF a plug and play thing, so if you get hassled its no big deal to remove. i would also try to make it a little stealthy, or stock like.
i've never tried it, so no idea if it does anything or not, can't hurt. |
Yeah, probably seems like a reasonable plan to make it as much plug and play and stock appearing as possible. Also, how is DLTGIF different than DLIDFIS? I've never heard of that.

i have no idea what the DLIDFIS even means (anymore) |
It's a bit of a pretentious acronym; DLIDFIS, but it stands for Dual Leading Ignitor Direct Fire Ignition System and was a way to differentiate it from the others that people were trying out at the time. It was only 7 letters at a time when most phone numbers were still just 7 numbers long. I figured it wouldn't be too terribly difficult for most people memorize. :)

No matter whats its called its a great way to bump the performance and reliability of the ignition system. I think we all agree on that.

Definitely. I won't even drive a setup with stock dizzy ignition anymore if I can help it. It's one of those mods that just has to be done as there are only benefits and zero drawbacks. However if you have an SA that still has to have semi-firing trailing and the tach on the leading side for the stock thermal reactor to "keep its fire lit"... well TG has the solution.

"Keep it simple, stupid" really is one of the smartest things we can do.

Hahaha, I probably spent 10 minutes trying to search this on the forum for ignitions before responding originally. I should have known, thanks for the laugh.
