distributor rotor problem
 

I had my rotor explode in a million bits a short time ago. I had just replaced it so I thought maybe it was just a bad part issue. Well I happen to be getting into some winter work and find this rotor is got some crazy wear. its like its not spinning i a true circle. There is plastic dust everywhere and its shaft is oval instead of round. I was considering pulling my engine out. Now I really am. as anyone had this before? My distributor didnt seem loose. Just hoping this is not unique so maybe I cn figure it out easy.

Sounds like maybe the distributor shaft could be bent? Without pictures it's hard to judge.

It's also easy to latch the cap down, but not be centered on the distributor base.

I think you called it off the bat twilight. After putting the distributor shaft is more than likely bent. Rotor really seems to turn off center. Hope new distributor will fix it.

So who has an extra distributor sitting around?

I've got a couple. No idea if the pickups work but you could probably swap parts around. No ignitors or vacuum pods. (it's why I have so many, I kept getting more to get good ignitors and vacuum pods lol. )

If the cap isn't on straight, then it will cause the rotor to hit the contacts. This tends to destroy both the cap and rotor. Make sure the cap is fully engaged and sitting correctly before starting the car. :)
