Hi Guys,

My dizzy - well the shaft that the dizzy rotor plugs onto, when u try and rotate the dizzy rotor its pretty rough and hard to turn - i think this is to do with mechanical advance. Just checked on a friends RX and it turns real smooth. It takes a fair bit of force to turn this by hand and I'm guessing that the mechanical force is not going to be enough for it to advance timing as it should. How do I go about fixing this?

Also! S2 RX7 with elec ignition. so the ignitors on the dizzy itself. If ur standing on the left side of the car and looking at the dizzy, theres an ignitor module on the left and above the dizzy. The one to the left is the Leading and above Trailing, right??

If the shaft itself is hard to rotate, it may be the bearings in the shaft. If that's the case, replace it. The weights for the mechanical advance are spring loaded, check if they will move in and out without binding. If the weights are binding, a little penetrating lube may free them up. Are there signs od rust inside the dizzy?

the shaft itself is easy to rotate if its out of the engine, but the top bit which deals with advance is what seems to be binding. Is it reasonably straight forward to pull it apart and clean it up and put back together??

I haven't taken one apart before. I would try lubing it with P B Blaster and working it to see if it can be loosened up without disassembly.

Pulled it all apart yesteday, cleaned :D now advances smoothely!
