Distributor for GSL-SE

I am being told I need a new distributor for my GSL-SE. at high rpms it is missing. My mechanic has limited experience with rotary engines although he is telling me it is loose.

so to eliminate this possibility I am looking for a distributor and have two questions

1. can any 1st gen distributor work? I have found a couple on eBay that say "79-85" but dont want to spend the money if it is not going to work and

2. Where might I find another if the ones on eBay don't work out.

Thanks,

-Ted

You could ask here on the forum. I have two of them. You would need to make a WTB thread in the FS section.

The GSL-SE part number is N304, in case you are wondering.

Very unlikely that the distributor has failed. You will want to do a full tune up which entails a replacement of the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coils (if they are original), air filter, and fuel filter. Check to make sure there are no vacuum leaks. If the car has been sitting, it would be wise to drop the tank, inspect the filter that rides on the pickup tube, have the tank cleaned if there's debris in it, and send the injectors out to be cleaned and flow tested. The engine will need more fuel at higher rpm and could be starving of fuel due to a contamination issue. When the 5th and 6th ports are opening, more air is being forced into the engine and the required fuel may not be there. It may also be a good idea to clean the throttle body, the mass airflow meter, and set base idle and set the tps into spec.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have decided to take it to a guy who knows rotary engines. I had been using him for years and he moved 75 miles away but it will be worth the trip.
