difficult problem
Ok so i just got my car all registered and legalized in california. when i brought my car to the brake and light place they said they had to disconnect my battery when it was running idk y but i didn't care at the moment. the next day i start it up go to school and after school i turn it on then start it and once i try to start it all that happens is a click and then everything turns off. i had to jump the car but it didnt help on bit i had to wiggle the positive terminal just to get its to crank and start. also on my way back home either the transmission or the engine was making a grinding noise. also on the trip back every time i put it in neutral it rev'd up to like 4 to 5 thousand i had to keep it in 5 just so it wouldn't rev so high? if any ones got the answer to this problem i would very much appreciate it.

1. Find a new mechanics shop.
2. Clean your battery terminals and retighten them. 3. Check the throttle/hot start/cruise control cables going to the carb. If those aren't too tight, check the idle screw. 4. Locate the grinding noise. |
LOL my bro lives in lemoore whats your car look like? I've seen like 2 rx's
First off you shouldn't of pulled off the batter terminals when it was on, whoever told you to do that slap them. |
yea down here if you bring an rx7 to any shop all they do is just mess with it and make it worst which is pretty gay the only shop i trust right now is kenshi motors in hanford. o and i drive this blue rx7 the paint is coming off just about every where on it. its not hard to find.

Any chance that the grinding noise is from the starter not "releasing" once the motor is running? Trochoid's advice is spot on...
. |
Normally I'd say take it back to the shop and make them repair the problem, but in this case I think they would make things worse! Trochoid nailed it I think and Kenetsu is probably correct that the grinding is more than likely the starter not disengaging all the way. Disconnect the battery terminals, clean posts terminals and attached connections, do the same at the starter, and double check the alt wiring for tight fit.
|
ok i took the terminals apart wiped them clean and put them back on the battery a different way so they had more of a connection and the starter was the grinding noise but since i did that when i start it doesn't make any noise so i guess im good for now.

Wiping the terminals is like using a finger for toilet paper. Feels good but doesn't clean the shit off. Get yourself a good wire battery brush.

Quite well put T.... . |
I have had similar problems with the connections on my terminals, I ended up using some sandpaper, there nearly shot anyway until I can get some replacements in. There is a guide somewhere with another RX7 owner putting some fresh terminals and wire in for $20....if I could only find that link...
Another RX7 owner in the valley, get a few more guys we could probably all meet up for a cruise. Thanks for the heads up on Kenshi Motors, might give them a call. |
