differential bolts
 

I was swapping putting in my carter fuel pump today and i noticed that my differential bolts ( the 12mm ones that are on the drivetrain side) were loose and there is a small gap between the two parts of the differential that shoutld have been held togewther by the bolts. Some I could move with my fingers!! Should I just tighten them and hope for the best? Do I need to take the differential cover off and clean it out and put it back in? What should be done?

I would just tighten the bolts and check the fluid level to make sure I didn't lose any and watch for leaks. There is no cover back there you have to pull the whole differential out Thats after you pull out your axles.

yeah its a very very big job,

just tighten em up and check for leaks,

if it does leak you may be able to get away with buying a new gasket and removing the driveshaft,
then sneaking it on over the front of the pig,

but even with all the bolts out if you dont remove the axle shafts you will only have about a hlf inch gap to work with,
