diff between 79 and 80 engines
 

are there any diff between a 79 and 80 engine. the reason I ask is that I am putting my 79 12a in to a 80 car. just wanted to know what to look out for if anything.

other than 1 being older than the other, I don't know of any differences. The block is physically the same, so if you swap all the hoses, vaccuum tubes, and brackets over to the block you are installing, it should work fine.

I'm no expert but I believe that those two years are very compatible. Could be wrong though.

the dizzys are different.. the wiring is slightly different.. but otherwise, they are close enough.. i would get a hold of an 80+ dizzy and get rid of the points thta the 79 has.. and then make sure that your wiring matches, and you are ready to go

'79's don’t have a provision for the oil pressure sensor on the rear side housing. The front and rear side housings are made from a thicker casting which makes them the strongest (and heaviest). The oil filter pedestal mount is noticeably thicker, for example.


Edit: after thinking about it more, maybe it was both the 79 & 80 that did'nt have the oil pressure sensor....
