did i toast my wires?

ok, recently i replaced my ignition with a SUM-850602 ignition box and three SUM-G5220 ign coils. i wired it just like the mazda speed write up on the msd 6al. i ordered some accel wires but i just got a call that summits not selling them anymore so i have just been using my (replaced at sometime before my ownership) wires that were on my car. yesterday my car started running funny. i could hardly get it to start (like it was flooded) but it would run then sounded like one rotor just would quit, start it again and i could drive it about a block then it would just die out. did i fry my wires? no changes on it since it was running perfect?

Only you can answer that question.:-)

You need to see if you still have fire to the leading side. Could of fried an ignitor.
If yo have fire to the leading side then you need to test the ignition wires. The you will know whether 1 or more are bad, don't forget to test the coil wire also.

haha, no ignitor on the leading, ive got a box to do that for me. is there a safer way to check for spark other than holding the wire. i really dont want to get shocked my my box and 60,000 volt coil.

pull one of the wires off the spark plug and pull back the rubber boot until you can see the connector then place it on you strut tower with the exposed end about 1/4 inch away from one of the four bolts then you can see and hear the spark jumping to the bolt from the interior of your car. go through each one, one at a time

that works on the coil too just unhook it from the dizzy and place it by the strut bolts as well

If you have a timing light just hook it up to each wire including the coil wires. It will read them if they are firing.

Otherwise you can go down to Harbor Freight if you have one and buy an inline spark tester or get one at any Auto parts store.
