Did i get a good deal?
 

Bought a 1982 for $550. It needs alternator-Radiator-exhaust(And some cosmetics-paint, etc) 103k miles and looks rather clean all together. Also does anyone know how to get all that gunk off my rims? I was going to use a brillo pad but i dont wanna scratch the crap out of em. Give this newbie some tips!

I got an 85 GSL for $500 running poorly. I tuned it up in an afternoon, and my Dad still drives it semi-daily with no real problem to date.

get the radiator at the junk yard for like 40 bucks.
exhaust-RB setup sold at mazdatrix.com is the preferred setup
alternator-get one off a TII if you can

I picked up a nicely running 82 GSL for $500 with almost no rust....(minor rust too anyway) ...um..just needed a simple tune up and I do need a muffler...nice little hole. It's fun to wake everyone up in the morning when I start the baby up. hahaha

I'm still learning about these things...I can even admit I never really heard of an Rx7 until my co-worker offered it to me. heh

Just to put in my two cents, when I acquired my '79, my brother told me all I needed was an exhaust. Damn, that sounded so simple.

I got my '79 originally for $200 canuck bucks, needed a gas tank, master brake cyl, driver's side window, all the front windsheild trim, odds and ends in the interior... spare tire, hatch struts, all the logos, and a few other things...

after a visit to a couple junkyards, I had everything I needed for about $400 canuck bucks, so the car cost me about $600 altogether.

Then I started on the dreaded wheel well rust.... :rolleyes:.... that took a bit of work, but was worth it in my opinion.

Then about 5 months later, the engine packed it in, and I had to put a new one in.. picked up a good used 12A for $250, slapped her in in a weekend, and had a decently running car.

Now the compression's down on that engine, and it smokes quite a bit, and the gas mileage is too crappy for me to drive, so it's parked in my driveway for the winter, and has been since the middle of august...

So it definately sounds like you got a pretty good deal on your car if it's in decent shape body wise, and runs well.

I got my '83 for $850......Ive been driving it every day for a year w/ nothing but a tune up and new tires

I paid $1500 for my 83' GSL. It's got about 13k miles on a rebuilt, street ported 12A. Body is pretty good. Interior is mostly good. The car has some problems but I should be able to get them fixed for cheap.

Paid $4,000 CDN for my GSL-SE, $900 for my '83.

A 'good deal' is as happy as a car makes you for the money you paid. I consider the '83 to have been a fair price, while the more costly SE was a good deal (and before Silver Rocket gives me shite for saying so, the '83 was tired whereas the SE was mint :) )

I did the RB exhaust setup on my SE (best mod money can buy for that car!), so getting one with crappy exhaust is a bit moot - get the RB system and you'll be set :)

Cheapest place for radiators for my car that I found. I got one from there, and its great. It got here with no bent fins or anything. Its perfect :).
