Wrote this a few days ago, never had a chance to post it but I've recieved the items and I'll post up that whole shpeel after this pre-arrival assessment.


Hey guys,

I figured I would make this post just to inform some people of a recent discovery of Level Zero Motorsports. They currently make Poly, Delrin and Solid Aluminum motor mounts for the FB, along with CAS Covers and Delrin Shift Knobs (with an M12x1.5 which I know atleast fits GSL-SEs)

I went ahead and ordered a set of Delrin motor mounts, I was going to go solid aluminum because this is going to be a race car that's street legal but then I remembered in January I'm going to have to daily drive the car for a few months so even a small amount of flexibility is nice.

The cost for both Delrin and Solid are $50 shipped, the Poly's are $95 and consist of Poly sandwiched by 6061 Aluminum. Now I know you can get Competition Motor Mounts from Mazdatrix are like $64 each + shipping, as well Banzai makes a set for $105 + shipping so this is looking to be quite a bit cheaper and anyone who has ordered from Mazdatrix knows their shipping can sometimes be a bit outrageous.

Clayton (gent from LZM I've been in contact with) has been extremely helpful so far with ordering, there was a small dependency that was corrected extremely fast and handled extremely well, I'm excited to see how the mounts and knob will fair as far as quality, and fitment. I'll be sure to document the product as they were delivered and how the assembly went, my car isn't going to be running so I can't give a before/after but hopefully this will be enough for some people to take the dive with me and support an up and coming shop who also happens to be an RX-7 owner himself :icon_tup:

Alright, well the items were shipped on Monday, got here on Thursday so I'm pretty stoked, I hope to have em on the car tomorrow night as the car is on the other side of town.

Packaging:
Items were shipped in a snug 'small flat rate box' but everything slid in and out with ease, the mounts themselves were not wrapped simpyl slid into the back of the box next to the supplied 2 grade 8 bolts, 2 nylon lock nuts, and 4 washers in a small bag, some filler paper to keep the stuff from sliding around and the shift knob was in it's own little bag as well.

I would have prefered to seen everything wrapped accordingly but then again Derlin doesn't exactly dent easily and since their going in a place where most people won't see them, I wasn't heart broken.

Shift Knob:
Items are exactly as pictured, knob is a 2" round ball with deep threads to allow a lowered position, I will have to make sure that there is actually enough threading on the FB shifter for use of that but for now everything looks solid, slightly tooling was left exactly as described, gives a nice smooth but not glossy feel.

I guess I didn't really think a 2" knob was gonna be this small but it still looks great and should work alot better than my current worn out stocker, might possibly find a larger knob at some point but I'm also getting a wooden LeMans shifter made by my father so that'll be the last shifter that car ever sees once it's done.

Motor Mounts:
The 2 mounts are again exactly as pictured, 2 cylinders cut and drilled from Delrin stock, top and bottom have a textured ring finish I assume from the lathe and the outside looks like perhaps it's what the stock finish is when you buy it wholesale, no issue with that though, as long as they perform I am happy. Also the holes drilled are just big enough for the bolts to slide right in with ease and have nearly no play side to side.

Also noted I know when alot of people do/did the 'hockey puck' mounts they used 2 steel plates to sandwich the puck together to spread the force and allow proper fitment, this will part of my assessment tomorrow as well as the height of the new mounts vs. stock and overall fitment.

Customer Service:
Clayton who I assume is the owner of LZM or at least being the person I spoke to was extremely helpful and displayed perfect professionalism on all levels, no other comments really.

Final Thoughts:
I'll have to wait till I install the mounts tomorrow to give ya'll an idea of how well they fit, any modification needed or anything else you might want to know but as it stands, they appear to be a great product for a great price, I hope Clayton will continue work towards more products for the RX-7s in general and especially FBs since we need the love but I am at this point definitely willing to do business again with LZM.

My car is not running nor will be running for another month or two, and since it's already been 8 months down I will not be able to give you a full road review, I can still remember the feel of the car before but again, not gonna be able to give you a proper before-n-after but I'll do my best to give you an idea of the fitment, quality and value of it all.

Probably should update this.

Got everything installed today, unfortunately as I walked into the shop realized I left my camera at home so all I had was cellphone and not very pleasant lighting so I'll have to take some proper pictures of the mounts installed.

After getting the stock mounts off I found out that the drivers side was actually torn straight off it's 'cup' and was squashed significantly to one side probably from when my transmission crossmember broke and pulled the engine down on that side quite heavily for some time. Passengers side mount actually looks....well...perfect.

The Delrin mounts when on without a hitch the the bolts are JUST LONG ENOUGH to get to the nylon locker portion, I would have liked to see another half inch and I might go back and replace them later for piece of mind but they are long enough to go all the way through the nut. I did notice upon comparison they are slightly shorter than stock but only by maybe 5 mill.

Shift knob fit quite well, M12x1.5, the hole was slightly off center so it wobbled a tiny bit going on but sunk down quite alot shorter than stock, this was the hardest pic to get due to my cellphone, I'll post it up anyway but it's terribly dark.

I'm also going to have to look into seeing if Clayton might be able to make something as far as a delrin or solid Transmission mount as well, I know that one is destroyed as well so I figured if its broke...might as well go all out.

Those bolts are only grade 5. They have three | marks. Go ahead and get some longer grade 8 with six marks.

Good observation jeff. Also u might wana think of some type of locking mechanism for the motor mounts. Double nut is what most ppl perfer for the hocky puck motor mounts. After i did it i didnt think it was neccesary (till my header flange bolts rattled out cuz of the xtra vibration and left me with a huge exhaust leak till i got new bolts (double nut as well lol))

I did notice that earlier but decided to throw em on to get everything bolted up, I also decided after making that post as well the bolts were simply too short and needed a lock washer as well which is what the stock mounts had and well...they didn't come off without a fight.

While I would like to and I will bring it up to Claytons attention it doesn't appear in the description that the items are shipped with grade 8 like it does with the solid mounts but I'll mention it anyway.

And as Dark stated I may as well just throw a double nut ontop of that.

Completely forgot to update this, here are pics of the knob and mounts installed, I told Clayton about the bolt issue and he said he'd bump the length up a bit when he orders the next round of hardware so hopefully if anyone else buys em, they'll be set.

The knob as per instruction from Clayton as well is to be cranked on about has hard as you can, when I first put it on I snugged it up, gave it a little more but it still felt loose, he said the threads 'weren't gonna fall out' :lol: and the bottom of the threading was actually tapered so the harder you crank, the harder it grips. Solid as a rock :D

Shook Motorsports offers delrin transmission crossmember bushings, but not a transmission mount. http://www.shookmotorsports.com/

Racing Beat has the Mazda competition trans mount. http://www.racingbeat.com/RX7-1975-1...ate/12050.html

Too bad I've got the RE-Speed steering kit, otherwise I'd jump on those engine mounts. Might get the shift knob though. How does it feel while shifting? Is there any weight to it?

Trans mount and bushings are exactly what I wanted to look towards next, hopefully this will finally tighten up the last of the drivetrain as I know mine are shot to hell.

The knob itself is featherweight so there isn't much to it but I personally like it, it's got a smooth but not glass feel and even sitting out in the sun, it'll get warm but you hold onto it for a minute or so and it cools right off.

Unfortunately no, bills, school and work have drained me dry of energy and funds, I've gotten the chance to purchase a few things but haven't quite been able to set aside the cash for a fuel cell, pump and the harness materials.

I have installed the Shook Motorsports crossmember bushings. No issues. I did a writeup on the installation, but on a different forum.

Dragging this one back from the dead. I'm looking at using a set of delrin mounts (on my daily summer car). Would this eliminate the need for the racing beat torque brace? Might just go the RB brace route, with stock mounts, just to reduce the amount of vibration transmitted through the mount/frame. Curious to know your experience using these though... assuming you have (hopefully) been able to get her running in 2-3 years.

I've never needed the racing beat torque brace. I thought I might get one to try it out some day, but after the upgraded motor mounts and trans mount, nope. The engine stays put. Shifts much better. Engine vibration transfer is so minor I don't even notice anymore.

What motor mounts did you use? Hockey pucks? RB? Just curious.

RB competitions and hockey pucks in various cars. Also RB competition trans mounts.
