Dellorto Throttle linkage?
I have a Dellorto 48 DHLA. I have been itchin to get this bad boy on. It seems that my car wants nothing to do with it though. It has been one issue after another.
I am missing the throttle linkage. it never came with it. I contacted the guy I bought it from, but he didnt have it. He bought it but never put it on his car, so its not his fault. Here is a pic of what Im talking about. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d9...et/Carb001.jpg http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d9...et/Carb002.jpg How am I supposed to connect the throttle cable. I know there should be a cruise one too, but I aint even trippn over that i just want to be able to give it gas. I really hate bootleggin things, yet I dont wanna have to order parts form the UK. Sometimes I just wanna sell it and get a sterling!!!!!!! UGH! |
try ghetto rigging it with a throttle cable end or build something. i dont think that the part is availible for seperate buying or ive never seen one.
|
It is, it's really meant for a different style of throttle cable though, and you're going to have difficulties finding the parts locally.
I know exactly how to rig it and I'm trying to show hondalover what I mean so he can show you when you guys attempt it, but he's MIA as usual. |
Ok, here's what I told hondalover to do:
Take the old Nikki out of my FB (it's in the storage bin) Break the choke cable linkage off (make sure you leave about at least a half inch to an inch of metal beyond where the cable connects to it at) Drill a hole near the back of the 'new' linkage, close to where you broke it at Find a bolt/nut combo that will bolt the 'new' linkage onto the hole at the bottom of the linkage on the dellorto, but this needs to be able to rotate and not have slack to flop around at all. Then you should be able to mount your original cable directly to the old nikki choke linkage. It will look a little ghetto and strange, but it will work. OR, if you don't care about hooking up your choke right now, take the cable holder off of that's linkage and relocate it to the throttle linkage, then find some way of making your stock cable fit on it and not come off. |
That carb is missing the RB throttle linkage. two pieces of metal that sandwiches the throttle cable. Buy the holley linkage from kragen.
bad flash. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...r/DSC06312.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...r/DSC06313.jpg |
Wacky!!! GIVE ME GIVE ME GIVE ME!!!!
|
Haha, yeah, the right part also helps.
|
Find a VW partshouse. they usually carry a universal linkage kit Or find an old pre-RX-7 nikki carb and grab it (requires little massaging). The one's from an RX-7 will not work as it uses a spacer. Too bad I didnt keep the orig one from this carb. I hated that POS.
|
I'm pretty sure if you hack up the nikki choke linkage you can make that work until you get the proper one (as pictured above ;)
|
Wacky your killing me bro!!! Its like showing a hungry man I picture of food!
universal linkage kit for what a dellorto? |
lol. yeah, hit the junkyard. Grab the ones from F/I cars (MX-6 as in example) and have someone spot weld it. I dont recommend drilling/screwing it to the stocker as it can bind (learned that the hardway while on the track on 2nd gear-had to shut it down).
|
This Dellorto is starting to piss me off! Im about to give up and just sell it for a sterling!
Any takers! |

Yeah, that doesnt make sense to me. If I attached the linkage I got form the Nikki to that using a bolt through that small worn hole at the bottom I dont see how that would cause the system to bind sticking the throttle open.
|
It would if you used a threaded bolt that would allow the nut to tighten down not allowing the linkage to rotate, as when the throttle came back it wouldn't rotate and it'd hold it open slightly. But I think so long as you put it together properly it would work fine.
|
if you tighten the nut fully on there with one of those nylon locking nuts it should lossen or tighten, staying with the unit moving as one. the same as welding it. I would weld it, but I left me welder back in TX.

The cables going to need to be able to pivot, either within the peice you steal from the nikki, or on how you attatch it to the linkage already on it. Chances are there's not enough range for it to rotate in this setup with the peice you take from the nikki, so you'll need to make the assembly itself rotate, this is how it could possibly bind as it could tighten and stop rotating ending up at a strange angle.

www.cbperformance.com <<<< they have everything weber you can think of. even the so call nonexistant dcoe rebuild kit.
Just realized it's a delorto, that carry stuff for those too.. |
