Dellorto question.
 

Hello people I was wondering if you guys could let me know what I should pay for a Racing Beat dellorto 48 and intake. It is used, I have no clue what they usually go for that's why I'm asking right now I'm using a Nikki carb. I don't even know if its worth trying all the other 7's I've been exposed to that were carbed back home were Holley's. So I'm kind of trying to learn these carbs. Any help/info is greatly appreciated thank you...

question is what are you willing to pay? also setting up a dellorto is very time consuming and cost a lot of $ o get it correct, but I have done it. so to answer your question $400 to $800 is reasonable for a complete set up, but make sure you are getting the air filter and metering rod as well for the engine you plan on putting it on. If you can get a Dell that was originally setup for your engine (stock port 12a, street port 12A, 13B etc)
then getting it running and working correctly should be fairly easy and not too expensive. It
gets hard and expensive if you need to rejet and readjust a Dell that was not setup initially for
your target engine or if the Dell is not a RB Dell or has been played with too much by the PO.

Plan on getting the rebuild kit from dellorto.com ( in England but they ship pretty quickly ), its
the best place to get your Dell kits and parts hands down. Do not recommend any US suppliers.
Also plan on having to make some gaskets for the AP because RB used a thicker one. You can
get away with using the rebuild kits gasket but you notice a slight stumble on initial throttle
application.

On cost, they were ~$800.00 new in the early 90s. I wouldn't pay more than $400.00 and at that
price it better look like new and come with all the bits snively mentions. I've seen them go for around
$300 or so with the intake.

+1. also, if your getting a used dell that has been sitting for years, this is a "must" to replace as a dried A/P will be crispy and may leak which can cause engine fire provided you have not clean up the engine harness. I make and double the gasket using the ones you purchase from any partshouse.

I sold one about a year and a half ago for about 350, it was in good shape and only needed a AP diaphram (small leak). Just to give you an idea...sold it with air cleaner and all linkage too.
