definitive guide to modifying nikki carbs?
 

has anyone got a decent guide to modifying the stock nikki carbs off 1st gens (79 SA specifically)

any links or advice appreciated, thanks.

yeah pm sterling or rx7carl...thats your best bet, i think sterling has it down to a science, like how far you can bore out the venturies, porting the surfaces around the airhorn...just everything.

Check the archive. Sterling has at least three threads in there about the Nikki. And there have been plenty of threads on what you can remove from the nikki if you don't have to pass emissions. There was also a carb manual in pdf floating around on one of the websites which can help with understanding the inside of the carb and rebuilding it. Check the FAQ for that.

As for Carl and Sterling, they will give you some info on how to rebuild your stock nikki, but don't bother asking them about things like boring the venturis and advanced stuff, because that info is kept secret! ;) They've spent hundreds of man hours and quite a few dollars between them experimenting on Nikkis, flow testing, and figuring out what works.

Of course you could always get your carb super-rebuilt by them. Then you wouldn't have to worry about anything but your jets and air bleeds :)

YES! The site is back up. For a while it was down. I've got a printed copy too. Helps a LOT when rebuilding the carb.

IIRC it's still in the FAQ though, if it isn't, I'll add it later.
