dead springs?
 

i hear people say this and i want to know which coils i can cut off my RB springs since i want to lower my car alittle more... Alot more on the rear the car is way to high any help???

As long as the springs are shot anyway, sure you can cut them. You may need to reshape the cut end so that it still fits right though. This will also make the ride stiffer though.

Another option is to compress the spring and put it in a warm oven for a bit. Then you take it out and measure how much shorter it is. Through trial and error, you can do it this way. This WILL NOT make the ride stiffer. For detailed directions, check out "How to make your car handle". Definitely a book worth the price....

Now the flame wars may begin (lots of people against cutting springs)....:)

I think he was asking which coils are the dead coils. Some springs have them, some don't. I have no idea, never seen a set of RB's.

RB's don't have them (as far as i know). my Eibach's from Ground Control. the 2 1/2" I.D. Race springs have 5 dead wound coils in the rear. this means the coils are compressed so there is no space in between the 5 top coils. this way you can cut them, in order to make the spring shorter, and it doesn't affect the stiffness.

i can't wait to get these in my car, but i still need the coilover perches for the front

P.S. if anyone knows, these springs were out of a Pro 7 race car, i forgot what the other classes are called it raced in, but apparently they set the spring rates that are allowed, and the only info i have on my springs, are that they were the ones set by the rules. im guessing around 350 front, and 250 rear, or somewhere around there...(at least i hope they aren't too much stiffer than that!)....anyone know?

trochoid is right. He was asking about the dead coils (the ones that are only for length and have no effect on the spring compression or rate). Usually I think theyre the "dead wound" coils at the end of the spring that dont have any space between them. Like theyre just stacked on the end of the spring. Dont quote me on that though.

would this count as dead springs i mean they just touch on top and bottom (except rears the top doesnt touch any other coils)

No they don't. A dead coil would have a full 360* of contact with the next coil. And there is usually more than one dead coil. Sorry.
