dead front rotor?
Ok, a week or two ago i was driving back home and right as i let off the gas to coast into the driveway, i didn't drop down to idle, it just died. Searched all around to find that my wires were prob junk and i'd lost the nut on the accelerator rod on my dell. today i got my new wires from mazdatrix and a new intake gasket since i had to take off the intake to get at the rod. got everything hooked back up and ready. she runs now but on one rotor?!, i pulled the plug wire from both the plug and the coil and saw/heard the spark jumping, but the motor wasn't affected. i pulled the plug and saw it was wet so i cleaned them off with a brass brush, turned the motor over and listened, strong poofs, and put the plugs back in. started it up, running on one rotor again. put my hand over the front barrel on the carb good suck, it would pull my hand right to it and then cover my palm in a fine blanket of gas. i blew threw all the jets too when i had her apart? i don't know what it could be???

uh oh problems since you installed your carb...i hope nothing happens to mine
|
still deciding if i should just go one piece manifold...

this is the only real prob i've had, im not blaming it on the dell at all. (200th post)

Pour a little bit of oil down the front rotor intake of the carb and wait for about 5-10 minutes to let the oil dribble down the intake and into the housing. Start it up and hold it at about 2500-3000 rpm and it should start popping and sputtering after a few seconds. Keep holding it until smooths out and then let off and let it fully warm up. If you haven't done an oil change in awhile now would be a real good time to get it done. If your oil has gotten thin the seals aren't sealing as well and your oil pressure isn't going to be as high as it should be.
I had this exact same thing happen to me with the same carb but on the rear rotor. An oil and filter change along with new plugs cleared that up. |
just poured like a 1/4 cup of mmo down the front runner. going to take a shower and then see how it starts up. then direct to the oil change.

Had the same happen to me a few years back on an 82 model
un hook you coils you dont want sparks while doing this take the plugs out clean them good and turn it over a few times wait a min or 2 and turn it over again if it blows out a lot of fuel please change your oil asap i would anyways just in case put it all back together pour a little trans fluid in let it settle down the intake for a min or 2 then crank it up let run for at least 5 mins to get warmed up and make sure all the gas is burned out of it ...gl:) |

actually started and ran off the back rotor only like it had been. took the jet cover off the dell and turned the smaller of the to jets on the front rotor a little and it started to run fine? drove it around, ran fine, right as i pulled in it started running off the back rotor only again. played with it and came back. it went back and fourth getting worse and worse. said f it and parked it. came back out and gas just dripping from the car. the return line i capped of was shooting gas i took the cap off the tank to equalize the pressure and the gas stopped coming out of the return? what is the next step?

both are three turns out, which it should at least hold an idle. i think im going to take the carb back off and blow out all the circuits, somethings got to be stuck in there, i just don't get it and i'm starting to loose hope:-(
