dash light doesn't work

The dash light on my FB 85 GSL-SE doesn't work. I currently am using a small flashlight to see my gauges in the dark. I'm thinking its the dash light dimmer switch, but I'd like some opinions, before I pursue the problem. So, what do you think??

Check the fuse!

Check the fuse. Mine when out a few days ago becuase the fuse popped, I believe it is a 10 amp.

dimmer switch

If it is not the fuse, it's the dimmer switch. You can bypass it for now by jumping the 2 multi-color wires, the black one is ground, if you jump that one you will definetely blow the fuse. rx7doctor

Did you plug in a connector that is unders the center section by the shifter. That will do it real quick.

what exactly do u mean by this bit of information....

also another thing is i tried rx7doctor's way of bypassing the dimmer switch....and when u re-route those two red colored wires together they heat up really fast and then they start to melt shit....im goin to go to the bone yard tomorrow and try and grab me a dimmer off of this fb that have sitting there....parker

I could never get the bypass thing to work - just killed fuses for me.

ref13brx7's comment references 2 wires near the shifter that look like they should be connected. On a manual car, connecting them will instantly blow a fuse - they're only for automatics!

There is a male and a female connector under the shift boot. This is for the illumination of the numbers on the automatic shift levers. They fit together perfectly, so they may look 'unconnected' to someone not knowing what they are.

If you plug it together, it's going to blow your fuse or worse fry the dimmer curcuit for the dash, leaving you in darkness.
