Dash Clock Swap With AEM UEGO Gauge?
 

I've heard that the AEM's UEGO gauge fits exactly where the analog clock does in the dash on a first gen. My clock doesn't even work, so this sounds too good to be true.

They seem the same size, but where should I even begin to swapping them out? How much of the dash has to come apart? Has anyone else tried to use this location for the gauge?

A 2" gauge will fit good in the opening. Depending on the manufacture and if it's a rear mount or has a bezel, most will fit. I have iEquus and had to trim the openings a little but the bezel covers it.

I fit an Innovate gauge, others should work as well. Mounted it behind so it sat flush like the clock.

Took the instrument cluster out to see. The actual mounting points don't quite match up, unfortunately, and even if they did, the cluster would need more modification than I'm willing to risk.

Going to just go with a gauge pod and see where it looks best.

Would have loved for it to sit where the clock sits. Maybe one day, when I'm a braver man.

Did you look at my photos? All I did was bend some metal strips to mount it to the clock holes. The metal piece came from an old car stereo kit, but a thin piece of steel or aluminum from a home improvement store would work just fine. It's a lot less work than a gauge pod.

Unfortunately, my dash clock is in the instrument cluster itself on the far left, and not the center console.

I guess that's a 79 thing.

Gotcha, that might be a little tricky

For the S2 FB application, I deleted the 'storage cubby' in the dash under the ash tray and installed a blanking plate to accommodate 3 gauges.

It is 1/8" ABS plastic from Amazon, used a hole saw to cut the holes 95% of the way through the panel, then bonded in place with Plastic Weld type epoxy. Fill/sand/prime and it turned out pretty good. Paint matched to OEM gunmetal.

A box cutter utility knife made enlarging the OEM plastic trim pretty easy.

Maybe think of an option like that.

There's a spot similar to those that I was considering, but I couldn't quite get it out, I'll take another look at it, and see if I can get that part out.

That's a really clean install

I got a 1979 Limited cluster just for the clock. Found it on ebay earlier this year for $35.

My center console has already been modified, and there's not quite space for an install like Tommy's.

Just gonna have to wait for my gauge pod to get here, it seems.

Mine's got the analog clock in the cluster, so it would have been perfect. Shame
