custom turbo - how deep can I fall?
I can get a really good quality turbo from a mid 1980's Dodge Omni/Duster/LeBaron . It is off a 2.2L engine and in good shape. $50. How hard would it be to make a custom setup and how would I properly run an engine management setup, cost of whole project, realities, and are 13b gsl-se 's appropriate engines for this? Any help would be appreciated? Also - I have synthetic oil already, should I get rid of it and why is it so bad to run in a rotary? Thanks.

cmon, gimme more info.... a larger turbo, and can the ecu off the turbo donor car be used with a rotory? What size turbo is recommended - eg what size are the cartech turbo's?

Rotary engine inject small amounts of oil into the cumbustion chamber for lubrication and/or ignition. Synthetic oils dont burn clean which will leave carbon deposits and eventually cause you engine to carbon lock over a period of time. I think...

Those little boinger turbos would run out of breath by 5k RPM. You will not be able to use another car's ECU either. It's hard enough to use the one in your car presently. You can probably do a Blow-Through Holley Kit for under 2k if you do it yourself. |
Keeping your motor is great to, but it will end up costing more in the long run.
There is always a market for good running N/A engines. sell it, take the money and buy that parts for the T2 swap. I've talked to several people who have Turbo'd thier N/A. next time they will just go T2 :) Also visit the 2nd gen section, most go for the T2 swap over the turbo'n of the N/A.
