The curse of owning an Rx-7(money!)
 

Well, just needed to vent a little, and I know plenty of people here can relate. I decided awhile back to embark on a nice little turbo project. The plan is a side-draft weber blow through, keeping it as simple as possible. I figured, how hard can it be? everyones doing it these days. The engine has less than 10 miles on it, rebuilt and ported. Well, I started getting things together for the project, a used s4 turbo and exhaust manifold, brand new rb downpipe, volvo intercooler, boost controller, guages, toyota supra BOV. Now im left next to broke with a project that isnt near half finished. So who else out there is in the same boat? I probably need another 1000 to get it done properly, and how i want it. Exhaust, fuel sys, oil lines, possible turbo rebuild, etc... Ive had my car for about 14 months now, and have actually driven it for about 3! It seems like a lot of other people around here also have 7's that ended up being eternal project cars...

Don't get me started. I've spend enough on my 7 to buy a modded 3rd Gen, and it is STILL not quite finished.

A project car is a never ending money pit, get used to it. Have another dailey beater, and work on it when you can.

You'll be happier in the long run that you took your time to do it the "right" way.

BTW, your setup sounds good.

I had a modded 3rd gen, owned it for over six years. My 1st gen is also "still not done", but I am happier with the 1st gen than I was with the 3rd. Shit's always greener on the other side of the fence. 1st gens kick ass becouse they tend to be smaller money pits than almost any other money pit (project) type car.

Im sure it will be a great setup when Im all done, haha, I just had to get that out. I guess im getting kind of ansty to drive the little beast. It is kind of exciting to know that there will almost always be something else I can do to my car, I dont think i will hit any sort of practical limit any time soon. I mean, with more power, a better drivetrain is always helpfull.. A better turbo could help, then there's body work, god knows how much money you could pour into that :)

The cheapest way is to find someone just like you that gave up on their project and wants to unload the stuff you really need.
