A curb hit my RX
O.K., I hit the curb, Fuk. Anyway my transmision mount is completely destroyed.
Does anybody have a picture of the under side of gen 1, I need to explain to somone what part I need. Also if anyone has the trans mount assembly and would like to sell it let me know. Where are there good sources for used parts (wreckers)? |
junkyards my friend. they are your paradise.

I've been calling and calling, i can't find any. I might have to start looking farther south. Do you know of any good yards?
|
Trying doing a search on valuparts.com . That's how I found all of my local junkyards that had RX-7's.
|
Yeah, I picked up some dirt-cheap wheels for my snow tires that were in really good condition, and a turn signal lamp for only $65.

How did you manage to run so far up onto a curb that you destroyed your tranny mount? That's far  I can't even put my front end up onto one, 'cause my air dam hits first :(

May want to check the oil cooler, radiator, and rearend for damage while your down there. they all sit a little lower than the tranny mount.

My tranny mount is bad too. www.schucks.com has a surprising amount of mounting pieces and crap. You can go to the store and order a brand new one, thats what Im doing :).

Well, I was turing into a parking lot, and as I was turning the front wheel popped up over the curb and the car landed directly on the transmision mount, it pushed the trany up about 2 inches. I was accelerating at the time (maybe a bit to fast). My cat has some dents in it, but other that that everything is O.K. I don't know how it managed not to damage anything else, but I just count myself lucky.

Hi.
I don't even know that this is a photo of an RX-7. Still, it was in my RX-7 directory, so I guess it must be. I don't know who the original credit for the picture goes to. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~jamesmcl/tranny.jpg Hope it helps, ScruffyChimp |
Thanks, thats the photo I needed.

Heh, looks lke everyone has an oil pan leak or two... I'm not the only one that has to keep watching my oil level I see....

Not what you want to hear after your experience but I had a spinout on oil with an 85 SE which swung the ass end over a low profile median curb onto the tranny.
Since you knocked the gearbox up 2 inches with a hard shock, you'll want to also check: - pilot bearing - main (3) & counter shaft (3) bearings in gbox - bearing front cover seals inside tranny bell housing If these didn't take a hit now, you'll likely have a tranny rebuild ahead of you sooner rather than later. Good luck |
The tranny mount is actually one of the inexpensive Mazda pieces. I got one from the dealer for $31 Canadian, about $20 US.

i have one i belive... it kinda looks like
------ --\____/ er... something like that anyway if so i have a spare one you can HAVE for free |
bah didnt quite work how i wanted it too
|
shes is allright
Everything has been fine. Actually the hit was not that hard, I think as the car sat on the mount, and while I was trying to get it off the curb it pushed it up.
But I will be pulling the motor and tranny this winter, I had planed on doing the clutch and pilot bearing and throw bearing. The car seems to run perfectly. Except last friday I was in a six car accident on the highway. My front bumber is bent and the fairing below the back bumber is pushed in. A car locked up the brakes in front of me in heavy rain and I locked up like a mofo. My tires are shit and I should not have been out in the rain. Anyway, now I have a good excuse for buying a mariah front bumber and airdam. I have had some bad fucking luck. |
I hear ya... I hear ya
