ct 26 turbo
 

So a friend of mine wants to sell me a ct 26 turbo for 50 bucks. its off of his wrecked supra with about 170000 miles. would it be a good turbo for the 7?

nope. not if it's got 170000 miles in it.

do it once and do it right.

could i send it somewhere to get rebuilt? turbos are kinda scarce in my area

CT 26 is too small even for a 12a. it will choke the exhaust side due to its small AR and the compressor will have to turn 10 billion RPM's to get any boost which will result in overheated air charge. not good JuJu.

i thought the ct 26 was one of the larger turbos to come stock on a car?

Welcome to the wonderful world of rotarys and our little oddities. If you can locate a 2nd gen turbo, put it side by side with the CT 26, then ask that question.

i asked that earlier bout a t25.... what if i got a turbo off a cummins diesel? i'm sure i got a few layin around.

LOL. I do believe that would be a tad too big. Not sure you could ever get enough exhaust volume to spool it up. But man, if you could, those things push 30PSI+..............

yah... early cummins turbos really arent that big... later they got pretty huge... i think that it would spin the smaller of the group.

I just put a new HX-35 on my 97' 12 valve and I wouldnt even consider it on a rotary.
For one,the compressor is big,itd spool up terribley. And the exhaust side is quite small in comparison to the compressor.Its just all wrong......not that it wouldnt work at all,but just cause it looks like a turbo and can be bolted to your engine.....doesnt make it right, or correct.Diesels dont rev much,so the exhaust tends to be small to maximize velocity....but they take in lots of air because they tend to be large in displacement,so the compressors are large.Its just a different animal with different expected behaviors.

Look on ebay theres tons of turbos. Also U can check Turbobuicks.com for used Grand national turbos I just sold one of my old ones for $75 and it had recently been rebuilt with no shaft play smoke etc... Thats what your looking for. Also depending on what setup your useing you might be able to find some FD guys old twin turbo setup.

Yeah, while the compressor is close in size, the HT-18 (13bt) exhaust housing is like 2x the size of the ct26's its just a totally different concept with the way a rotary breathes.

Why does this dude talk to me like i dont know what a turbo is?
I work on cummins diesels every day... i know how big they are, what they boost, and why. IMO the earlier gen cummins would be similar in size to what i have seen on the 2nd gens....

Just putting out info there, bud.....it wasnt directed to anyone in particular.Plenty of people have wondered/asked the the same question in the past.
Im a diesel mechanic myself,I work on heavy equipment and ag tractors.
